Men Have Become Lower than Animals

Present day human beings on this planet have so much lost contact with the underlying spiritual realty that pervades all of existence that they are now often eating simply for the sake of eating even when they do not require any food and thus becoming dangerously obese. Also they are now indulging in sex simply for the sake of sex even when they do not desire to produce any children. And if any children come, they murder them.

Show me any animals who eat when they do not require food. Show me any animals who routinely murder their offspring. Which species is polluting the earth's atmosphere and gradually turning it into a toxic waste dump? The time has come for the entire world to take to Krishna consciousness as a matter of mere survival on this planet if for no other reason. Does anybody else have a practical solution?

Question: How Much Practice to Reach Anartha-Nivritti Stage?

Most often I had been listening to your lectures. In one of your lectures you had mentioned about the bhakti yoga advanced stages of anartha-nivritti (clearing out all the weeds from the hear), nishta (fixity in Krishna consciousness), and ruci (transcendental taste). I really liked the concept of the weeds of lust, greed, anger, madness, illusion and envy being thrown completely out from the core of the heart at the root level. How much practice of Krishna consciousness is required for a neophyte devotee to reach the stage of anartha-nivritti?

Thank you,

Hare Krishna,

Radha Ramana

Answer: An Entire Lifetime of Practice

Typically it will take the neophyte devotee his entire lifetime to get completely free from these anarthas or weeds. By taking complete shelter of Lord Krishna at the time a death he can finally cast away all of the lust, greed, anger, madness, illusion, and envy that has tortured him for millions of lifetimes. Of course, in the rare cases of highly advanced devotees this stage of complete freedom from all the dirt in the heart can be accomplished even within the devotee's life before he leaves his body.

It should be also noted in this connection that one who enthusiastically embraces the struggle of trashing his anarthas is as good as liberated even while he continues with his endeavor to purify all of his senses and conquer the anarthas. In other words he experiences ever-increasing transcendental bliss as he proceeds step by step closer and closer to Krishna. This is the mood that we should be in to completely drive away all contamination from our hearts. And who knows? By the special grace of Krishna, we can become fully awakened in pure love of Godhead and see Krishna face to face, even before we leave our present material bodies.
