Incompetent World Leaders

Image
Presently the entire world is suffering greatly under the misguidance of incompetent leaders. While good government means a government based on the God-centered conception of existence, today's present day governments are based on nationalism and economic development for ever-increasing sense gratification. Instead of promoting God, they are promoting godlessness. Any government which does not put God in the center needs to be reformed. Since these are the days of democracy the people in general need to educated to only vote those who are purely God conscious into office. Better Tune In and Turn On Your Soul

Image
Why remain in a suffering condition when all you have to do is tune in and turn on your soul? I wrote a song to introduce this concept to the music listeners of the world: Turn On Your Soul Do you know who you really are? Do you know where you’re coming from? Do you know for sure where you’re goin’ Or what you will become? You’re eternal, full of knowledge and bliss So remember and celebrate this. You’re not of this world, dear friend. Better tune in and turn on your soul. Do you know what happens when you die? Do you know what’s beyond the sky? Do you think that body is you? It’s just something that you’re passing through. You’re eternal, full of knowledge and bliss So remember and celebrate this. You’re not of this world, dear friend. Better tune in and turn on your soul. We’re told that everything happens by chance. That the universe has no person in control. But I see that every machine has got an operator. So the universe also has one. This I know. Do you kno

It's Time to Free the Slaves

Image
It's time to free the slaves. And who are those slaves? In case you do not know, I will inform you. Those slaves are us. At the present moment we, the members of the human civilization, are enslaved by our senses. Being compelled by lust, greed, and anger we are forced to succumb to the impulses of our senses, even if such sense indulgence is detrimental for our well-being. So instead of remaining the dogs of our uncontrolled desires we should take advantage of the special mercy of Lord Sri Krishna by fully surrendering ourselves at His lotus feet. This will free us slaves from all suffering for all of eternity. We will become eternally liberated. There is no alternative to this way for anybody who has even half a brain. The complete morons will foolishly remain enslaved forever until that day comes when they wake up from their madness and take advantage of Krishna's unparalleled mercy. Persevere Through All Circumstances

Image
This material world is a dark, foggy place with filled up with unlimited oceans of lethargy and ignorance. Therefore sometimes it takes a lot of determination to get something done here for Krishna. When facing insurmountable obstacles we should always remember that there is no obstacle so great that Krishna cannot easily empower His devotee to overcome it. Therefore, with complete faith and trust in Krishna we should persevere in all circumstances to remain absorbed in Krishna consciousness and dedicated to blessing the entire world with Krishna consciousness. Please Save this Fallen Soul

Image
Srila Prabhupada wrote a beautiful poem to celebrate the appearance day of his spiritual master. In that poem he prayed to his spiritual master, "Save me, a fallen, Your Divine Grace." With Srila Prabhupada praying to his spiritual master presenting himself as a fallen soul begging his spiritual master to save him, what is our position? We must always consider ourselves to be fallen souls begging humbly presenting ourselves to our spiritual master begging for his mercy that we can be saved. This is the proper mood for a Vaisnava, a devotee of the Lord. Should I Be Alive or Dead?

Image
The life and soul of the disciple is to serve the order of his spiritual master. Anything other than serving one's guru is death. Our spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, instructed us as follows in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 4.30.37: "There are two kinds of devotees. One is called gosthānandī and the other bhajanānandī. The word bhajanānandī refers to the devotee who does not move, but remains in one place. Such a devotee is always engaged in the devotional service of the Lord. He chants the mahā-mantra as taught by many ācāryas and sometimes goes out for preaching work. The gosthānandī is one who desires to increase the number of devotees all over the world. He travels all over the world just to purify the world and the people residing in it. Caitanya Mahāprabhu advised: prthivīte āche yata nagarādi grāma sarvatra pracāra haibe mora nāma Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu wanted His followers to move all over the world to preach in every town and village. In the Caitanya-sam

How to Discover God

Image
Srila Prabhupada wonderfully describes how to discover God: "Just try to understand. For instance, I am caused by my father; my father is caused by his father; he is caused by his father, who is caused by his father. In this way, if you go on searching, then you'll ultimately come to someone who is the cause that has no cause. Anadir adir govindah: [Brahma samhita. 5.1] The cause that has no cause is Govinda-Krishna. I may be the cause of my son, but at the same time I am the result of another cause (my father). But the Vedic literatures say that Krishna is the original person; He has no cause. That is Krishna." So when someone claims that there is no God, ask them, "But do you have a father?" If they say, "Yes", then ask them if their father has a father. In this way explain to them that when you go back, back, back until find a father who has no father you have discovered God. If someone, atheist or otherwise, is a sincere seeker of truth, this e

Streamlined Brahmacari Consciousness

Image
Srila Prabhupada defines a brahmacari as one who only engages in sex for producing Krishna conscious children, not otherwise. This principle is practiced both by celibate monks as well as Krishna conscious married couples. By thus minimizing or completely eliminating sexual indulgence from their lifestyles, those who are truly serious about self-realization can channel all of the energies to the reawakening of their eternal loving relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead and thus quickly attain the supreme peace, the supreme nirvana. Back Out into the Jungle

Image
21 April 2013--Today we are leaving Sri Vrindavana Dhama and heading out for eastern Europe. Staying here in Lord Sri Krishna's most sacred abode was certainly a cooling, most refreshing respite from the vicious, dog-eat-dog atmosphere of the material world. We could stay here in Vrindavan peacefully for the rest of our lives. But our duty is not to live comfortably. Our duty is to do whatever austerities are required to wake up the world population to the underlying spiritual reality that they are currently completely oblivious of. Therefore we are heading back out into the jungle of this material world to continue executing our world deliverance mission given to us by Srila Prabhupada. Krishna kindly keeps us comfortable even in the midst of the jungle-like chaos, just as it is always calm and peaceful in the eye of even the most devastating, destructive hurricane. Be the Revolution You Want to Make

Image
It is very easy to point out faults about the world situation and the deficiencies which sometimes are manifest within a spiritual society which is dedicated to solving the problems of the world. But as long as we are not letting go of the contamination that is sitting within our own hearts we will not be successful in rectifying anybody else's faults. Therefore if we want to make a revolution for the respiritualization of the human society, we must first of all revolutionize our own hearts by attaining the stage of anartha nirvritti, cessation of all material contamination. Only to the extent that we have revolutionized our own hearts can we be successful in revolutionizing this planet. Rama Navami--Appearance Day of Lord Rama

Image
Today, Saturday 20 April 2013, is Rama Navami, the appearance day of Lord Ramacandra, here in India. It is a national holiday and is being celebrated here with great joy and enthusiasm by millions of people. The Ramayana by Valmiki Muni is the authoritative history of the pastimes of Lord Rama, which are also mentioned in brief in the 9th Canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam. Verse 9.10.51 of the Bhagavatam very nicely describes: tretāyāṁ vartamānāyāṁ kālaḥ kṛta-samo 'bhavat rāme rājani dharma-jñe sarva-bhūta-sukhāvahe "Lord Rāmacandra became King during Tretā-yuga, but because of His good government, the age was like Satya-yuga. Everyone was religious and completely happy." Srila Prabhupada gives his purport as follows to this verse: Among the four yugas-Satya, Tretā, Dvāpara and Kali-the Kali-yuga is the worst, but if the process of varnashrama-dharma is introduced, even in this age of Kali, the situation of Satya-yuga can be invoked. The Hare Krishna movement, or Kris

Enthusiastically Embrace the Struggle

Image
For a neophyte devotee it is a struggle to keep himself always engaged in Krishna consciousness with his every thought, word, and deed in all times, places, and circumstances. It takes time, patience, determination, and enthusiasm to attain the stage of anartha nivṛtti when the dirt in the heart is practically all cleansed away. Srila Prabhupada quotes Bhaktivinode Thakur's definition of anartha nivṛtti as follows in his Caitanya Caritamrita purport: "Liberation from material contamination is called anartha-nivṛ̣tti, indicating a diminishing of all unwanted things." The intelligent devotee enthusiastically embraces the struggle to attain anartha nivṛtti because he knows that once reaching this stage after an intense uphill struggle his continued advancement through the stages of nishta (firm faith), ruci (taste), asakti (attachment), bhava (purified emotion), to the perfection of Krishna prema (pure love of Godhead) comes automatically as confirmed by Srila Prabhup

Bring the Senses Under Control

Image
Sense gratification and self realization go ill together. We cannot become self-realized as long as we over-indulgence in material sense gratification. Therefore if we want to become truly happy by tasting the genuine bliss of Krishna consciousness, we must bring our senses under control by only giving them what is necessary for a healthy life and nothing beyond that. In this way the senses can nicely be engaged 24 hours a day in Krishna's service, and we will quickly advance along the pathway of pure devotional service to attain the supreme perfection of pure love of God. Getting Older or Getting Younger?

Image
If we indentify with our material bodies thinking that this lump of blood and flesh is me, this means that at every second we are getting older and moving one step closer to death. What a morbid existence! But if on the other hand we identify ourselves as eternal spiritual-being servitors of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, this means that with our every repetition of the Hare Krishna mahamantra we are becoming younger, moving another step closer to entering the eternal pastimes of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna, in that wondrous spiritual sky millions of light years beyond the miserable realm of birth, death, old age, and disease. An Intense Jam-Packed-Full Day of Mercy

Image
On Saturday 14 April Lord Sri Krishna showered upon me unlimited oceans of mercy here in Sri Vrindavana Dhama. I rose at 2am and chanted sixteen rounds of Hare Krishna japa. Then at 410am I lead the mangala arati kirtan in Srila Prabhupada's samadhi. Next I offered mangala arati to Sri Sri Radha Damodar. After this I prepared their breakfast. At 715am I attended the greeting of the deities in the Krishna Balarama temple room. Next at 8am I gave the English Srimad Bhagavatam class in the Krishna Balarama temple. Then I had a meeting with one of temple managers and took a quick prasadam breakfast consisting mostly of fruits. Following this I was the sole speaker at a three part seminar called Transcendental Engineering. This was a series of three lectures each lasting for one hour and twenty minutes. By the time all the lectures were finished it was time for a late afternoon lunch. Then after taking some rest it was time to offer the evening arati to Sri Sri Radha Damodar, change th

You Become What You Eat

Image
13 April 2013--At the crack of dawn I walked from our residence in the MVT Bhaktivedanta Ashram to the ISKCON Goshalla, the place for keeping the cows. It was so wonderful to see so many cows being very nicely cared for with love and devotion. Because the cow is very dear to Krishna, lovingly taking care of them helps us to awaken our love for Krishna. I pity the poor materialists, who ignorantly kill the cows and eat their flesh. They are unaware of the future that awaits them. Just as they are mercilessly killing and eating the animals, they will also be mercilessly killed and eaten by the same animals that they have tortured. In this connect is stated in the Vedic wisdom: māṁ saḥ khadati iti māṁsaḥ. "I am now eating the flesh of an animal who will some day in the future be eating my flesh." This means that you become what you eat. Therefore the devotees only eat Krishna prasadam and nothing else. In this way they regains their original spiritual identities in the spiri

Who Are the Two Gurus?

Image
Sometimes it is stated that we have two gurus. So who are these two gurus? This is very nicely described by Srila Prabhupada in a letter he wrote to Kancanbala devi dasi on 14 January 1968 from Los Angeles, in which he states: "There are two gurus -- one internal and the other external. The internal Guru is Krishna Himself seated in everyone's heart, and the external Guru is the Spiritual Master. So a sincere devotee is helped both externally and internally. To the sincere devotee the internal Guru Krishna dictates, but the thing has to be conformed by the external Guru then it is all right. " If we sincerely engage in Krishna consciousness under the guidance of these two gurus, our lives will be successful. We will go back to home, back to Godhead, back to our original identities in the spiritual world. Training Up the Future World Leaders

Image
Today's world leaders are nothing but a pack of fools and rascals, and there is not much more to be said in this connection. And without spiritually enlightened leaders the future of the world is nothing but the deepest, darkest, despair. Today's youth are tomorrow's world leaders. Therefore the world's only hope is the proper training of the youth in Krishna consciousness. The young people must be carefully trained in the science of Krishna consciousness so that there will be a bright future for this planet. Seeing Material World as the Spiritual World

Image
Srila Prabhupada's purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 4.28.42 is absolutely amazing. Therein he describes how the advanced devotee sees no distinction between the material world and the spiritual world because he sees everything within the Supreme Personality of Godhead and the Supreme Personality of Godhead within everything. He achieves this state of consciousness because he does not act for his own separate interest. Whatever he does, he does it simply for the satisfaction of Krishna. For such a truly advanced devotee the so-called material world becomes the spiritual world. He fully realizes the purport of the Vedic mantra: sarvaṁ khalv idaṁ brahma "Everything is indeed an expansion of the Supreme Brahman." (Chāndogya Upanisad 3.14.1) If we will 24 hours a day follow this principle of engaging everything in Krishna's service, we will achieve this exalted state of consciousness, pure Krishna bhakti. Worshipping the Spiritual Master as Good as God

Image
People may find it odd that we are worshipping a human being as good as God. In fact some people consider this to be downright demoniac. So why do we worship the spiritual master as good as God? Is there something wrong with this? The answer is a resounding, "No!" To worship the spiritual master as good as God is authorized, quite proper and necessary according to the supreme authority, Lord Sri Krishna, who instructs as follows in the Srimad Bhagavatam 11.17.27: ācāryaṁ māṁ vijānīyān nāvamanyeta karhicit na martya-buddhyāsūyeta sarva-deva-mayo guruḥ "One should understand the spiritual master to be as good as I am. Nobody should be jealous of the spiritual master or think of him as an ordinary man, because the spiritual master is the sum total of all the demigods." It is also confirmed by the great Vaisnava acharya, Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakur: sākṣād-dharitvena samasta-śāstrair uktas tathā bhāvyata eva sadbhiḥ kintu prabhor yaḥ priya eva tasya vande gur

Don't Be Carried Away by Sense Gratification

Image
Overindulgence in material sense gratification is our greatest enemy because it pulls away from our realm identities as eternal spiritual beings into the hellish illusory consciousness of dreaming that we are these bodies. As long as we remain misidentified with a rotting bag of stool, blood, flesh, bones, mucus, and urine there is no way that we can experience the transcendental bliss of our eternal existence. Therefore those who are genuinely wise only indulge in sense gratification insofar as is necessary to keep their bodies strong and fit for nicely serving Lord Sri Krishna 24 hours a day. Don't Cheat Yourself

Image

Make a Revolution Against the Godless Society

Srila Prabhupada said to his disciples, "My ambition is that you make a revolution against this godless society. That is my mission. That is why I continue on, even at this advanced age. We want to guide everyone. So you have to know my books. Read and preach--both things must be there--then you will have potency. Preaching means fighting."
