We Must Learn the Art of How to Conquer Our Minds

Image
Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 6, Verse 7 offers a very profound insight as to how we can attain perfect peace of mind. Here is that verse with its translation and most enlightening purport by His Divine Grace Srila Prabhpada: jitātmanaḥ praśāntasya paramātmā samāhitaḥ śītoṣṇa-sukha-duḥkheṣu tathā mānāpamānayoḥ TRANSLATION For one who has conquered the mind, the Supersoul is already reached, for he has attained tranquillity. To such a man happiness and distress, heat and cold, honor and dishonor are all the same. PURPORT Actually, every living entity is intended to abide by the dictation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is seated in everyone's heart as Paramātmā. When the mind is misled by the external, illusory energy, one becomes entangled in material activities. Therefore, as soon as one's mind is controlled through one of the yoga systems, one should be considered to have already reached the destination. One has to abide by superior dictation. When one's mind is fix

Vedic Civilization Was More Advanced Spiritually and Materially

Image
Not only was the Vedic civilization more advance spiritually. It was also more advanced materially as well, far beyond the material advancement of our modern day so-called civilization. In this regard Srila Prabhupada writes in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam, Fourth Canto, Chapter 21, Text 13 as follows: "...great personalities like Arjuna, Yudhisthira and many others used to visit higher planetary systems. Thus there was interplanetary communication via suitable airplanes and space vehicles." Sankarshan Das Adhikari. The USA is Very of Its Space Program But It's Nothing Compared to the Interplanetary Travel in the Vedic Civilization Answers According to the Vedic Wisdom Question: How to be Krishna Conscious? Dear Guru Maharaj, Please accept my obeisances All glories to Srila Prabhupada If a person has started feeling not comfortable in a materialistic environment but also is not that good in spirituality and is getting frustrated in this situation. Don't Try to See God

Image
Srila Prabhupada taught us this: "My Guru Mahārāja used to say that 'Don't try to see God. You work in such a way that God will see you. God will take care of you. Don't try to see God.' This is the process. 'I want to see God. O God, please come and stand before me,' Oh, just like He's my servant. God is no one's servant. You have to oblige Him by your love, by your service. That is the process." So if we have to desire to see God, we must act in such a way that He will see. In this way, we get the opportunity to see God. Sankarshan Das Adhikari. We Are Unlimitedly Indebted to Srila Prabhupada (Here he is at the Radha Damodar Temple where he lived before he came to the West.) Is There Proof for God's Existence?

Image
We not accept the existence of God blindly. We understand that God must exist both on the basis of logic and argument and on the basis of scripture. In this regard Srila Prabhupada explains as follows in a class he gave on the Srimad Bhagavatam in Los Angeles on 20 April 1973: "The conclusion is that the matter cannot develop out of itself. No. That is not possible. The superior energy must touch it. Then it will be..., will active. There are so many machines. That is matter, inferior energy. Unless a operator comes to touch the machine, it will not act. First-class motorcar, very costly motorcar machine, but unless a driver comes, it will stand for millions of years there. There is no use. This common sense is lacking. The matter cannot work independently unless the superior energy, living entity, touches it. This is common sense. So how these rascal scientists say that life develops from matter? No. How it can be concluded? There is no such instances. They falsely say that...

Srila Prabhupada Turned the Hippies into Happies

Image
Srila Prabhupada very much appreciated the hippie movement that was in America and Europe in the 60's and early 70's. In fact he said the hippie movement was Krishna's special arrangement to help him get this movement started. Here's some of the other things he said about the hippie movment: "Actually, the hippies are our best customers. Almost all of our important disciples are recruited from that group," (from a Letter to: Goursundar -- Los Angeles 13 July, 1969) "I want that all the hippies should come to me and I shall solve their problems. Actually all these hippies should join us." (from a Letter to: Satsvarupa -- Delhi 25 November, 1971) "This is the best path, Kṛṣṇa consciousness, because people are becoming happy. From hippies they are becoming happies now. Therefore, it is the best path. They were confused, frustrated, now they have got hopes of life. Thousands of boys and girls, they are admitting that, 'You have given us a

Srimati Radharani is Unlimitedly Merciful

Image
Srila Prabhupada describes how merciful is Radhani. He says: "If anyone approaches Rādhārāṇī, She recommends to Kṛṣṇa, 'Here is the best devotee. He is better than Me,' and Kṛṣṇa cannot refuse him. That is the best devotee. But it is not to be imitated: 'I have become the best devotee.' "Just like Rādhārāṇī. She thinks always Herself as the lowest of the devotees. She thinks always. She sees always that the gopīs, other gopīs, they are better qualified to serve Kṛṣṇa, and She is not qualified, so much qualified. Therefore in Vṛndāvana, you'll find the devotees approach Rādhārāṇī: 'Jaya Rādhe,' because if Rādhārāṇī advocates for him to Kṛṣṇa, it is very easily accepted. And Rādhārāṇī says... If Rādhārāṇī's pleased, then She represents the devotee's case that 'Here is a devotee. He's better than Me. Kindly accept his service, Kṛṣṇa. 'So Kṛṣṇa cannot deny. So mahā-bhāva. Rādhārāṇī is mahā-bhāva." This is why before we chant

Do You Want to Take Birth Again or Go Back to Godhead?

The choice is yours. You can remain caught up in the cycle birth of death suffering repeatly birth, death, old age, and disease within the 8,400,000 different species of life. Or you can fully surrender to Lord Krishna under the guidance of the bona fide spiritual master and regain your eternal full of bliis and full of knowledge youthful identity in the spiritual world. The Phenomenal Qualities of Krishna's Devotees

Image
Krishna's devotees manifest the most astouding qualities. In his book, The Teaching of Lord Kapila, Srila Prabhupada gives two examples of this: "Prahlāda Mahārāja, a five-year-old boy, had to undergo a great deal of suffering at the hands of his father, who was torturing him for being a devotee. The boy was trampled by elephants, thrown from a mountain, placed in burning oil and thrown into a snake pit, yet he was silent during this whole ordeal. Similarly, Haridāsa Ṭhākura, a Muhammadan by birth, was a very great devotee and was always chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. That was his only fault. However, the Muslim Kazi called him forth and said, 'You are a Muhammadan, born in a great Muhammadan family, yet you are chanting this Hindu Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra. What is this?' Haridāsa Ṭhākura mildly replied, 'My dear sir, there are many Hindus who have become Muhammadans. Suppose I have become a Hindu? What is wrong with this?' The Kazi became very angry and ordered Haridāsa Ṭhāk

Birds of a Feather Flock Together

Image
By the association of devotees one gradually comes to understand that he or she is the eternal servant of Kṛṣṇa, and then one becomes very eager tospend as much time as possible in the company of the devotees. Birds of a feather flock together. The symptom of an enlightened servant of Kṛṣṇa is that he is eager for the company of other such great souls. Thus by one's sensitive and rational observation of this material world, one should come to appreciate the value of spiritual life in the association of the devotees. Sankarshan Das Adhikari. Jagad-Guru Spiritual Prabhupada

Image
Srila Prabhupada writes in his purport to Sri Caitanya Caritamrita, Adi Lila, Chapter 7, Text 83 as follows: "A sincere student aurally receives the holy name from the spiritual master, and after being initiated he follows the regulative principles given by the spiritual master. When the holy name is properly served in this way, automatically the spiritual nature of the holy name spreads; in other words, the devotee becomes qualified in offenselessly chanting the holy name. When one is completely fit to chant the holy name in this way, he is eligible to make disciples all over the world, and he actually becomes jagad-guru. Then the entire world, under his influence, begins to chant the holy names of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra." We see clearly that Srila Prabhupada is such a jagad-guru, because even after his physical departure his influence is still spreading more and more all over the world through his books and through the preaching work of his disciples and grand disciles
