Why Have So Many Stopped Reading "Thought for the Day"?

Image
I'm sad that many persons in the past who were regularly reading this "Thought for the Day" daily broadcast are no longer reading it. Have they forgotten the unlimited value of regularly reading Krishna conscious writing? Absorbing the mind in topics of Krishna bestows unlimited benefit upon the person so engaged. The mind by its very nature always wants some kind of engagement. So if we do not absorb it in Krishna consciousness it will go to mundane consciousness. There is great danger in this because at the time of death the mind will naturally turn to that which it is accustomed. If we are not habituated to Krishna conscious thinking, we will naturally turn to mundane thinking. The result will be that we will not go back to Godhead. We will take birth again here in this miserable material world. Thus, I hope that my readers who have given up reading "Thought for the Day" will resume their former habit of reading it every day. Sankarshan Das Adhikari. We

There is No Truth Superior to Krishna

Image
If you are looking for the highest truth (and you should be doing that for that is the purpose of human life) then look no further than Krishna. When you found Krishna you have found the highest. This is confirmed in Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 7, Text 7 as follows: mattaḥ parataraṁ nānyat kiñcid asti dhanañjaya mayi sarvam idaṁ protaṁ sūtre maṇi-gaṇā iva "O conqueror of wealth, there is no truth superior to Me. Everything rests upon Me, as pearls are strung on a thread." So now if you will connect with Krishna you will make your life unlimtedly successful. Are you ready to do that now? Or do you want to postpone this?. Sankarshan Das Adhikari. Stringing Pearls on a Thread Answers According to the Vedic Wisdom Question: Requirements for Initiation? The Story of the Brahmana and the Cobbler

Image
In his book Raja Vidya Srila Prabhupada gives the wonderful story of the Brahmana and the cobbler as follows: There is a story of Nārada Muni, who was once asked by a brāhmaṇa: "Oh, you are going to meet the Lord? Will you please ask Him when I'm going to get my salvation?" "All right," Nārada agreed. "I shall ask Him." As Nārada proceeded, he met a cobbler who was sitting under a tree mending shoes, and the cobbler similarly asked Nārada, "Oh, you are going to see God? Will you please inquire of Him when my salvation will come?" When Nārada Muni went to the Vaikuṇṭha planets, he fulfilled their request and asked Nārāyaṇa (God) about the salvation of the brāhmaṇa and the cobbler, and Nārāyaṇa replied, "After leaving this body, the cobbler shall come here to me." "What about the brāhmaṇa?" Nārada asked. "He will have to remain there for a number of births. I do not know when he is coming." Nārada Muni was astonish

There is Unlimited Nectar in Krishna's Name

Image
Here is the most wonderful verse written by Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī in his seven-act play the Vidagdha-mādhava: tuṇḍe tāṇḍavinī ratiṁ vitanute tuṇḍāvalī-labdhaye karṇa-kroḍa-kaḍambinī ghaṭayate karṇārbudebhyaḥ spṛhām cetaḥ-prāṅgaṇa-saṅginī vijayate sarvendriyāṇāṁ kṛtiṁ no jāne janitā kiyadbhir amṛtaiḥ kṛṣṇeti varṇa-dvayī ”I do not know how much nectar the two syllables ’Kṛṣ-ṇa’ have produced. When the holy name of Kṛṣṇa is chanted, it appears to dance within the mouth. We then desire many, many mouths. When that name enters the holes of the ears, we desire many millions of ears. And when the holy name dances in the courtyard of the heart, it conquers the activities of the mind, and therefore all the senses become inert.” Just see what ecstasy we can experience when we master the art of chanting the Hare Krishna mantra without any offense. As long as we act on the plafrom of "I think" we will sink into the cycle of birth and death. Here's How to Relish Unlimited Happiness at Every Minute

Image
It's not at all difficult to relish unlimited happiness at every minute. All we have to do is fully engage ourselves in Krishna's service with our every thought, word, and deed in all times, places, and circumstaces. Lord Sri Krishna very nicely describes to Arjuna this perfect stage of consciousness in the Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 5, Text 21 as follows: bāhya-sparśeṣv asaktātmā vindaty ātmani yat sukham sa brahma-yoga-yuktātmā sukham akṣayam aśnute "Such a liberated person is not attracted to material sense pleasure but is always in trance, enjoying the pleasure within. In this way the self-realized person enjoys unlimited happiness, for he concentrates on the Supreme." So let us now take this process seriously and make our lives unlimtedly subllime. Do You Know What Divine Love Is?

Image
In his purport to Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 5, Text 25 Srila Prabhupada teaches us what is divine love. Here is what he as written: "Only a person who is fully in Kṛṣṇa consciousness can be said to be engaged in welfare work for all living entities. When a person is actually in the knowledge that Kṛṣṇa is the fountainhead of everything, then when he acts in that spirit he acts for everyone. The sufferings of humanity are due to forgetfulness of Kṛṣṇa as the supreme enjoyer, the supreme proprietor, and the supreme friend. Therefore, to act to revive this consciousness within the entire human society is the highest welfare work. One cannot be engaged in such first-class welfare work without being liberated in the Supreme. A Kṛṣṇa conscious person has no doubt about the supremacy of Kṛṣṇa. He has no doubt because he is completely freed from all sins. This is the state of divine love." Now make your life successful by fully embracing the principle of divine love in all times, place

We Must Embrace Pure Devotional Service As Our Only Business

Image
If we want to experience the transcendental nectar of our factual idenities as eternal spirit-souls, we must embrace pure devotional service to Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, as our only business in all times, places, and circumstances. If we are not willing to do this, we are simply cheating ourselves. And that's all there is to it. So let us take this instruction of Lord Sri Krishna, which He gives in Bhagavad-gita, Chapter18, Text 66, with the utmost seriousness: sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ "Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me.
