A day of Brahmā is called a kalpa, and it consists of a thousand cycles of the four yugas, or ages: Satya, Tretā, Dvāpara and Kali. Satya-yuga lasts for 1,728,000 years. Tretā-yuga lasts for 1,296,000 years. Dvāpara-yuga lasts for 864,000 years. And Kali-yuga lasts for 432,000 years. The total of the four yugas is 4,320,000 years. And multiplied by 1,000 is 4,320,000,000 years. And that is only 12 hours of Lord Brahmā. His 24 hours is then 8,640,000,000 years. And when we consider that he lives for 100 years with each year having 360 days we see that Brahmā lives for 311 trillion and 40 billion earth years and then dies. That is the duration period for the existence of our universe. And that huge span of time is merely the amount of time existing between the exhalation and inhalation of Maha-Vishnu.
