We Came from Vaikuntha Millions of Years Ago

Image
In London on 6 August 1973 Srila Prabhupada informed us that millions and millions of years ago we came down from Vaikuntha, the spiritual world, to this material world. Kuntha means anxiety, and vaimeans without. So Vaikuntha means that world where there is no anxiety. And Kuntha means the world of unlimited anxiety in which we currently live. The good news is that since we all originally came from Vaikuntha we are all citizens of that all-blissful eternal abode. Now all we have to do is reclaim our birthright by surrendering ourselves at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Krishna and regaining our eternal identities in His unlimitedly sweet transcendental realm. Sri Vrindavan--the Ultimate Abode of Sweetness

Image
Sri Vrindavan Dhama is the holiest of all holy places, the ultimate abode of sweetness, because it is here that Lord Sri Krishna eternally engages in most sublime sarva-rasa-sāra, the quintessence of all ecstatic mellows, parakīyā-bhāva, accepting the loving service of the gopis in the mood of paramourship. This highest of all rasas is only manifest in the ultimate realm of Vrindavan. Even though Lord Caitanya was a strict sannyasi who never associated with women, he stated: ramyā kācid upāsanā vrajavadhū-vargeṇa yā kalpitā "There is no comparison of the method of worship which was adopted by the damsels of Vraja." Therefore taking advantage of the special mercy available in this topmost of all holy places I am humbly bowing down flat on the ground in the sacred Vrindavan dust and begging the Supreme Lord and His pure devotees to bestow upon me pure prema bhakti. Prabhupada's Messenger Boy

Image
Sometimes I am glorified for my activities of spreading Krishna consciousness all over the world, but I do not think that I am doing anything very great in this connection. I am simply trying my best to be the loyal messenger boy of my most beloved spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the great savior of fallen souls. If there is any credit at all that I deserve for my crude attempt to serve Srila Prabhupada, it is that I have always sincerely tried to follow his orders without deviation. I have accepted his orders as my very life and soul. He ordered us, his disciples, "Become guru and deliver the entire world." Even though such a thing is inconceivable for us. What can we do? We have to try our best to execute his orders feeling dependent upon and always begging his mercy. Urgent Appeal to the World Leaders

Image
My dear esteemed leaders of the world society. Kindly note that all desirable conditions for the happy living of all the world's citizens, even the animals, can easily be had by the regular, widespread performance of yajna or sacrifice for the satisfaction of the Supreme Lord. Such performance of yajna is not a sectarian affair of favoring one religion over another. It is the universal system for bringing all favorable conditions of living to everyone all over the world. As the prescribed yajna for this age is the sankirtana yajna, the congregation chanting of they holy names of God, kindly introduce the performance of sankirtana yajna to your respective citizens. Each government should organize regular daily congregational chanting functions throughout their country so that each and every citizen will have the opportunity to participate in the congregational chanting of the holy names of God on a regular daily basis. At such functions there should be profuse distribution of veget

Radharani Doubles Her Krishna Consciousness

Image
Srimati Radharani has a very sublime method for doubling her Krishna consciousness bliss. She simply looks upon the beautiful smiling face of her beloved Lord Krishna. We can do the same thing because the deity of Krishna and the painting of Krishna, if viewed with devotion, are Krishna Himself. Here's what Radharani has to say in this regard as quoted in the Caitanya Caritamrita Antya Lila 17.59: mana mora vāma-dīna, jala vinā yena mīna, kṛṣṇa vinā kṣaṇe mari’ yāya madhura-hāsya-vadane, mana-netra-rasāyane, kṛṣṇa-tṛṣṇā dviguṇa bāḍāya “If I do not think of Krishna, My impoverished mind will die within a moment like a fish out of water. But when I see Krishna's sweetly smiling face, My mind and eyes are so pleased that My desire for Him redoubles.” Since Radharani has been gazing upon Krishna for all eternity, doubling her desire for Krishna with each gaze, we cannot even begin to imagine how heavily she is desiring Krishna. From Radharani's sublime example we lea

Exciting, Thrilling Adventure at Every Minute

Image
As long as we base our happiness on the connection of our material senses with the their corresponding objects of gratification, there's no way that we can experience genuine happiness because our material senses are different from us. They are simply external coverings of the self. Just as we cannot satisfy our hunger by dipping our shirt sleeve into a bowl of soup, similarly there is no amount of material sense gratification which can give real happiness to the self. It is only when we, the eternal spiritual beings, connect with the Supreme Person, the source of all existence, that we come back to our original enlightened state in which we experience an exciting, thrilling adventure at every moment. Gurvastakam Prayers at Prabhupada's Samadhi

Image
The sweetest nectar in Vrindavan is to rise early and attend the first arati of the day at 4:10am at Srila Prabhupada's samadhi. This is the most spiritually potent place in the entire universes because this is where Srila Prabhupada's body has been put to rest. Here the devotees gather together every morning and the sing the beautiful Gurvastakam prayers composed by Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakur. Gurvastakam means "Eight Prayers Glorifying the Spiritual Master." These sublime verses are sung to the tune of the mellifluous morning melody that Srila Prabhupada taught us. Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakur has given the boon that anyone who regularly sings this sublime song during the early time before sunrise will attain the direct service of Lord Sri Krishna in Goloka Vrindavan after leaving his present material body. So who would not want to cash in on this boon? Ecstatic Mangal Arati at Prabhupada's Samadhi 23 March 2012-Sri Vrindavan Dhama, India Answers by Citin

When You are Being Dragged Through Hell

Image
When you are being dragged through hell, which is not an uncommon occurrence in our daily experiences here in this material world, kindly remember these sublime words of Lord Sri Krishna: yasmin sthito na duḥkhena guruṇāpi vicālyate "If one is situated firmly in Krishna consciousness he is never shaken even in the midst of the heaviest difficulty." --Bhagavad-gita 6.22 So instead of trying to overpower the material nature by brute force, a truly impossible feat, firmly situate yourself in Krishna consciousness. In this way you will be solidly situated beyond the hell of this material existence. Truly Blessed on Flight from London to India

Lord Krishna blessed me with the most sublimely divine overnight journey from London to India. I was many days behind on answering my correspondence and did not want to spend my entire time in Vrindavan glued to my computer trying to catch up. Lord Krishna blessed me that I was able utilize the entire eight hour flight for answering emails without eating or sleeping. The non-devotees had all finished eating their nonsense food and watching their nonsense movies and were all sound asleep. But feeling very inspired and enlivened, I kept writing on and on, one email after another trying to give each of my inquirers the most suitable answer to inspire their Krishna consciousness. Near the end of the flight before the lights were turned to arouse the sleepers from slumber, one of the British Airways flight attendants approached me expressing her amazement how I had worked so hard non-stop through the entire night. Of course, it did not feel like hard work to me. It was a celebration of tra

Become Krishna Conscious Right Now

Without Krishna where is there any real happiness? Without Krishna where is there any real knowledge? Without Krishna where is there any real love? Without Krishna life has absolutely no meaning except that which we artificially, futilely try to give it. Being bereft of Krishna is nonsense. Being with Krishna is the only thing that makes any sense. Therefore the only logical course of action is to fully absorb ourselves in Krishna consciousness starting right now without any delay. En Route to Sri Vrindavan Dham

After many months of separation we are returning now to Sri Vrindavan Dham, the transcendental home of Lord Sri Krishna within this material world. Visiting Sri Vrindavan Dham is always the most uplifting and purifying experience. Krishna is personally present in this holiest of all places. And if one manifests sufficient devotion, he can feel Krishna's presence in Vrindavan at every step. Intensive But Ecstatic Nine Lecture Marathon

Image
Our brief weekend stopover in Toronto on our way to India was not for rest and relaxation. It was an intensive preaching workout of giving nine lectures in four different locations. In spite of going three nights with insufficient sleep, the absorption in Krishna consciousness was absolutely exhilarating. The fact is that the more we become absorbed in Krishna consciousness, the more we become enriched with spiritual happiness. This weekend was a golden opportunity to become deeply, deeply absorbed in meditation on the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna and thus reconnect myself and my audiences with our original transcendental nature. Suffering is the Pastime of Fools

The most astonishingly marvelous thing about existence is that it is so blissful. Thus it is absolutely pointless for anybody to be suffering, which is nothing but the pastime of fools. All one has to do to be swimming in an ocean of transcendental bliss at every moment is to reconnect himself with the origin of his existence, the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Sri Krishna, by following the simple, uncomplicated instructions which He so benevolently reveals in the Bhagavad-gita. Preparing for Life's Ultimate Moment

Image
The most important defining moment in life is the time of death. It is the culmination of all of life's experiences. Instead of trying to deny its existence like the proverbial ostrich who buried his head in the sand when he was being attacked by a predator, we should train for it with the intensity of an athlete who is aspiring for an Olympic gold medal. That gold medal is the ultimate privilege of being able to enter into the kingdom of God at the time of death. There is nothing more desirable than this. May everyone throughout the entire universe become awakened to their original pure identities as servants of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna. There is no need for so much bickering, strife, and dissension on this planet. Are You Teachable and Reachable?

Image
To become qualified for going back to home, back to Godhead we must always remain in a humble, teachable state of mind. If we are not teachable, it means that we think we know everything. It means the transcendental teachings of Krishna will simply bounce off of us without reaching our hearts. So instead of swimming in the delusion that we are the great knowers of everything, we should always remain open-minded and willing to learn from someone who can give us a higher understanding of what is the Absolute Truth and how we can perfectly dovetail ourselves with that Absolute Truth. In this way our pathway back to Godhead will be smooth, easy, and unobstructed. Is Hare Krishna Movement an Exploitative Cult?

Image
Recently I read a scathing criticism of our Hare Krishna movement by one of our former members that it is nothing but an exploitative, brainwash cult. So whose experience am I to believe: my own wonderful experience or his bad experience? The fact is that if someone comes to the Hare Krishna movement and holds onto the false conception that he is the Supreme, the center of the universe, he will eventually become dissatisfied and leave this most sublime movement. But it's obvious by simple common sense observation that we are just tiny parts of something which is much greater than ourselves. It does not make sense to cling tenaciously to the false conception that one is the Supreme. It is better to understand that one is subordinate to the Supreme and to the serve the Supreme. And if one chooses to do this, the Hare Krishna movement is the best place that I have ever found for doing this. Paralysis or Invigoration: Your Choice

Image
Forgetting Krishna is paralysis, just like a fish is paralyzed when he is removed from the water. And remembering Krishna is total invigoration, just like a fish is completely energized and invigorated when he regains his natural position of being in the water. In this connection we find the most wonderful verse in the Caitanya Caritamrita in which Srimati Radharani states: mana mora vāma-dīna, jala vinā yena mīna, kṛṣṇa vinā kṣaṇe mari’ yāya madhura-hāsya-vadane, mana-netra-rasāyane, kṛṣṇa-tṛṣṇā dviguṇa bāḍāya “If I do not think of Krishna, My impoverished mind will die within a moment like a fish out of water. But when I see Krishna’s sweetly smiling face, My mind and eyes are so pleased that My desire for Him redoubles.” --Sri Caitanya Caritamrita Antya 17.59 The conclusion is that those who are fortunate and intelligent will always engage their minds in remembering Krishna even during the course of their ordinary daily activities and will thus constantly be energize

Be Patient and Faithful and You Will See God

When a woman gets married she cannot expect to have a baby immediately. It will take some time for her to get a child. She should therefore simply patiently execute her duties as a wife with the full faith that by doing so in due course she will get the child she desires. In the same way, when one takes to the pathway of self-realization, he cannot expect to be able to see God immediately. It will take some time for his heart to become sufficiently purified for Krishna to reveal Himself. Therefore he should simply patiently execute his duties as a devotee of Krishna with complete faith and conviction knowing fully well that by doing so in due course of time Lord Sri Krishna will become visible. Today is the most auspicious day. On this day devotees fast all day until moonrise and then partake of a feast which has been offered to Lord Caitanya. This day is the transcendental appearance day of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Sri Krishna appearing in His most magnanimous incarnation. His magnanimity is that He is bestowing what no other incarnation has ever freely given before, pure love of Godhead. Become Delivered by Your Tongue

Image
One of the greatest impediments on the path of spiritual is becoming waylaid by the urges of the tongue. The tongue is attracted to eat anything and everything, even if it not good for the body and not conducive for spiritual progress. It is also attracted to vibrate anything and everything, even if the topic is not favorable for self-realization. Therefore Srila Rupa Goswami states that devotional service begins the tongue. One should purify his tongue by only tasting Krishna prasadam and by only vibrating the glories of the Lord and whatever is necessary for the Lord's service. If one engages his tongue in this way, he will make rapid progress on the path of ultimate self-realization, Krishna consciousness. How to Gain from Pain

Image
Nobody likes pain. Everyone abhors it. But yet we are all forced to suffer it. This is the sad reality of this material world. But the devotee of the Lord experiences pain differently. He sees it as the mercy of the Lord to help him come closer to Lord and become free once and for all from all the sufferings of this material existence. In other words, for a devotee, pain is a blessing, not a curse. He takes it as a powerful reminder that he is not his body and that the material world is not his real home.
