Question: What's Wrong with Material Pleasure?
Respected Gurudeva,With due respect and humble submission i would like to put up some questions and they are as follows;
What is happiness?
Why do the religious texts condemn pleasures when they can give us happiness? What's wrong in indulging with pleasures?
With regards,
Mohan Sharma
Answer: It's Not Real Pleasure
From: Goloka, LithuaniaMy Dear Mohan,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
Thank you very much for your sincere inquiry.
Real happiness is to be re-situated in our natural constitutional position of being absorbed in the loving service of Lord Sri Krishna 24 hours a day. Just as fish can only be happy in the water and cannot be happy on the land, our only real happiness is to be fully absorbed in the loving service of Lord Sri Krishna. We cannot be happy in the so-called happiness of material sense gratification.
Bona fide religious texts teach us how to enjoy unlimited pleasure at the every minute because they teach us how to become fully absorbed in the Lord’s service. They carefully steer us away from the false pleasures of material sense, which although appearing to be pleasures are actually all various types of suffering conditions. In Sanskrit this is known as maya-sukhaya, illusory happiness.
I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.
Your ever well-wisher,
