Srila Prabhupada's Disappearance Day
Today is the most heart breaking day that Srila Prabhupada physically disappeared from this mortal world some 45 years ago on 14 November 1977. According to the Vedic calendar this was the 19th day of the most holy month of Damodar, which also known as Kartik. This year in Vrindavan (where we are staying right now) the 19th day of Kartik falls on 29 October. So today's Thought for the Day is my offering of love to my most beloved spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, who has so mercifully saved me from this hellish material existence.
My dearmost Srila Prabhupada,
My dearmost Srila Prabhupada,
Please accept my humble obeisances in the most sacred dust of your lotus feet. You have so beautifully written to your spiritual master as follows in the dedication section of your Srimad Bhagavatam:
"To Śrīla Prabhupāda Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Mahārāja
My Spiritual Master On the 26th Annual Ceremony of His Disappearance Day
He lives forever by his divine instructions and the follower lives with him."
In this way you have taught us how we can always be connected with you at every minute. You live forever with us in the form of your divine instructions. Therefore if we truly desire your association we must tightly embrace your instructions within our hearts as our very life and soul. In this way we will remain eternally in your divine presence.
Regarding separation from the spiritual master you have written very profoundly in a letter to your disciple Jadurani Devi Dasi, "The ecstasy of separation of Spiritual Master is even greater ecstasy than meeting with Him."
This means that the more we can feel tortured and anguished by your separation from us the more tightly we will be connected with you in sublime spiritual bliss. So please bless us, Srila Prabhupada, that we now can feel totally desperately devastated that you have physically disappeared from this mortal world.
In this connection you have also written as follows to your disciple Krishna Das:
"To feel separation from the Spiritual Master or Krishna is very good position. That means one who is in pure love with Krishnan separation, that is Krishna Consciousness. And in the absolute platform, there is no difference of separation and meeting. The separation is also meeting and His Representative, Spiritual Master, he thinks always of Them. And this thinking process is Krishna consciousness. If we can think always of Krishna even i, rather in separation one relishes the loving relationship more tasty. So don't be disappointed that you are separated from me, I am also always thinking of you how you are making progress there."
So now we know what is our duty. We must always remember you and never forget you. This will be the perfection of our existence. And upon leaving our present material bodies at the time of death we will be reunited with you in pure spiritual bliss in that most sublime and unlimitedly ecstatic spiritual world.
