Cut the Hard Knot of Sex Desire
On 2 October 2022 I was blessed with the opportunity to speak on Srimad Bhagavatam, First Canto, Chapter 2, Text 15 at ISKCON's Sri Sri Radha Vrindavanchandra Mandir in Pune, India. Here is the verse:
yad-anudhyāsinā yuktāḥ
karma-granthi-nibandhanam
chindanti kovidās tasya
ko na kuryāt kathā-ratim
"With sword in hand, intelligent men cut through the binding knots of reactionary work [karma] by remembering the Personality of Godhead. Therefore, who will not pay attention to His message?"
In a lecture given in Los Angeles, USA on 18 August 1972 Srila Prabhupada explains that this knot refers to the hard knot of sex desire:
"These people are working so hard because they have got the aim, 'I will enjoy sex life.' Just like in your country, the hippies. They have given up everything, but sex is there. They cannot give it up. They have renounced everything—their father's property, their happy life, everything—but the sex is there. They cannot leave it. That is the central point of knot. 'Where you shall go, sir? Here is your knot.'
Therefore, this knot is very difficult to cut, but here is suggested, 'If you take this sword...' What is that sword? Yad anudhyāsinā. Always chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare / Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. Take this sword. This sword is only remedy."
So let us very seriously take this sword of chanting Hare Krishna to cut the hard knot of sex desire.

Please accept my obeisances.
All glories to your lotus feet.
All glories to Srimati Gurumataji.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
Gurudeva, I am wondering how much my previous fall down (breaking my vows and disobeying your instructions) will affect my future in Krishna consciousness? Will I be able to receive brahmana initiation so I can one day cook and perform deity worship? Will it affect my ability to become perfect in understanding the science of Krishna consciousness, becoming guru and delivering the world? Will it affect my ability to preach?
Thank you for your unlimited mercy,
Your aspiring servant,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
If a child who is learning to walk slips and falls down, does this mean that he will never walk? No. He will pick himself and learn how to walk and even become a powerful runner some day.
Regarding failure Srila Prabhupada elaborates:
"There is the famous proverb that 'failure is the pillar of success.' In the spiritual life especially, failure is not discouraging. Krishna very clearly states that even if there is failure, there is no loss either in this world or in the next. One who takes to this auspicious line of spiritual culture is never completely vanquished."
I hope this meets you in the best of health.
