So Much Better Than Sex

Srila Prabhupada writes as follows in his purport to  Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 5, Text 21:

"Śrī Yāmunācārya, a great devotee in Krishna consciousness, said:

yad-avadhi mama cetaḥ kṛṣṇa-pādāravinde
nava-nava-rasa-dhāmany udyataṁ rantum āsīt
tad-avadhi bata nārī-saṅgame smaryamāne
bhavati mukha-vikāraḥ suṣṭhu niṣṭhīvanaṁ ca

'Since I have been engaged in the transcendental loving service of Krishna, realizing ever-new pleasure in Him, whenever I think of sex pleasure I spit at the thought, and my lips curl with distaste.' A person in brahma-yoga, or Krishna consciousness, is so absorbed in the loving service of the Lord that he loses his taste for material sense pleasure altogether. The highest pleasure in terms of matter is sex pleasure. The whole world is moving under its spell, and a materialist cannot work at all without this motivation. But a person engaged in Krishna consciousness can work with greater vigor without sex pleasure, which he avoids. That is the test in spiritual realization. Spiritual realization and sex pleasure go ill together. A Krishna conscious person is not attracted to any kind of sense pleasure, due to his being a liberated soul. "

If we endeavor sincerely in Krishna consciousness, we can indeed attain this exalted state of pure Krishna bhakti. Therefore, if we have any intelligence at all, this is what we will endeavor to do.

Much Better Than Sex

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: Is Accidentally Killing Insects Sinful?

When we are walking or riding a bike small ants and other creatures will be crushed by our foot or bicycle tire. So, unknowingly creatures are killed when we are walking or riding. I feel very sad. I try my best to avoid, but unfortunately sometimes they will die. By this am I doing sin? Please give me light.

Answer: Yes, For Non-Devotees

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Mahendra,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Just as an ambulance driver while on an emergency can run a red light without getting a ticket from the police, a devotee who is fully engaged in the service of the Lord does not suffer any sinful reactions for accidentally stepping on an ant or such accidental killings.

However, a person engaged in material sense gratification will have to take birth as an ant and be stepped on for every single ant that he has ever stepped on.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari
