Minus Krishna Nothing Exists

Relish this marvelous verse, Brahma-samhita 5.41:

māyā hi yasya jagad-aṇḍa-śatāni sūte
traiguṇya-tad-viṣaya-veda-vitāyamānā
sattvāvalambi-para-sattvaṁ viśuddha-sattvam-
govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi

"I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who is the absolute substantive principle being the ultimate entity in the form of the support of all existence whose external potency embodies the threefold mundane qualities, viz., sattva, rajas, and tamas and diffuses the Vedic knowledge regarding the mundane world."

This a wonderful description of Krishna's divinity. Krishna is God because He is the absolute substantive principle. This means that things have substance only because Krishna gives them substance. Without Krishna giving them substance, they have no substance. In this way He is the support of all existence. In other words, without Krishna nothing exists. Without Krishna manifesting existence, even existence does not exist. So everyone and everything that exists does so by dint of the fact that Krishna is supporting that existence. So try understand how much we are dependent upon Krishna, not only for our food, water, and air. We are totally dependent upon Krishna even for our very existence itself. So how much we indebted to Him? How much we should be devoted to Him? This is understood only by those who have actual intelligence.

Question: Shelter of Guru and Krishna--What Does It Mean?

My Dear Srila Gurudeva
Please accept my humble obeisances
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Please kind sir, tell me what it means to take shelter of the lotus feet of Lord Krishna and of you, my spiritual master. Does this mean that a devotee is protected in case of wars and natural disasters and the like, always being able to put food on the table and such?

I know what the term means to me, but I am probably wrong being a neophyte devotee. So please kindly tell me what it means to you and Lord Krishna.

Your humble servant, Bhakta Das.

Answer: Protected From Forgetfulness of Krishna

Shelter means to follow the instructions of Guru and Krishna and thus be protected from the deluding influence of the material energy. Following guru’s instructions means to chant at least 16 rounds of Hare Krishna japa mala daily and strictly avoid illicit sex, meat eating, intoxication, and gambling.

Regarding wars, natural calamities, etc., the devotee knows that whatever happens to him is sanctioned by Krishna to help him increase his Krishna consciousness. Thus the devotee is always free from fear and anxiety in all circumstances.
