Question: How Many Upanisads Are There?

Reverend Gurudeva,

I understand that there are four Vedas and a few Upanishads, but what is Vedanta, Vedanta-sutra and Brahma-sutra? And also how many Upanishads are there?

Thank you.

Your insignificant servant,

Saurabh

Answer: 108

The Vedanta Sutra (also known as the Brahma-sutra) is a summary of the 108 Upanishads. It is also known as Vedanta because it is the conclusion all of Vedic knowledge. It’s natural commentary is the Srimad Bhagavatam. Therefore anyone who becomes learned in the Srimad Bhagavatam becomes the perfect knower of all the Vedic wisdom.
