Don't Be Misled by the Māyāvādīs

December 16, 2025

My first exposure to the process of self-realization was from the Māyāvādīs. They told me that I could become happy by following their teachings and that I had to pay some money to learn from them. They teach that the form and personality of God is ultimately an illusion, that the highest truth is impersonal, formless oneness. To them, the person Krishna is a myth, a poetic device to help us merge into to the impersonal oneness.

I tried the self-realization technique of various impersonalists and I found them to be impractical. They did not do anything to help me achieve the transcendental bliss that I desired. They say that everything is one, that duality is an illusion. If we intelligently analyze their philosophy, we can easily understand that if everything is one, illusion cannot exist. We can never be deluded. So how we could we be so miserable caught up in the cycle of birth and death? If everything is one, I am already an enlightened being and I don't need to do anything to become spiritually awakened.

Hare Krishna, dear Guru Maharaj,
Dandavat Pranams.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada, to you, and to Guru Mataji.

I have read this multiple times: Kṛṣṇa’s transcendental form, qualities, pastimes and entourage are all identical with Him.

But not able to realise it or feel it, how do I do that?

My Dear Gaurav,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

Krishna is also manifested as His holy Sri Vrindavan Dhama. By spending a few days there in the presence of His devotees we can feel and by blessed by His transcendental presence. After that when we see pictures like this, in which He plays His flute in the moonlit night on the bank of the Yamuna, we can feel His presence in His picture:

Krishna
So you should come and spend some time with us in Vrindavan the next time we come.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.

Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari

How I Came to Krishna Consciousness

In a world obsessed with money, fame, and fleeting pleasures—leading nowhere but to the grave or the crematorium—I walked away. Life felt so meaningless, I couldn’t stand it. This is the true story of how I turned my back on the American materialistic dream and discovered something far greater: Krishna consciousness. A gripping journey of inner revolution and a call to awaken a world civilization on the edge of collapse.
