Clarification of the Standard of Sex

December 4, 2025

In the 2 December edition of Thought for Day I mentioned two standards of "no illicit sex". I realize now that this was misleading. Actually there is only one standard and the so-called loose standard is not a standard. It is a deviation from Prabhupada's teachings. It's not that one can choose between two standards. One can simply choose whether to follow Srila Prabhupada or not to follow Srila Prabhupada.

Dear Maharaja,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Thank you for your email dated 26th October. Contents well noted.

Chapter 2:47, Sri Krishna advises Arjuna not to be inactive, but that he performs his prescribed duty without being attached to the result.
With this being said, we often hear that one must pray without a desire. I can appreciate there are material as well as spiritual desires.
Material desires can vary such as wanting better health, wealth or a specific outcome from one's prayer. Spiritual desires encompass a specific outcome such as for example being a better devotee or getting closer to God. In this age of Kaliyuga, praying with no desire and not anticipating some result, will this not disturb the mind? For example, a devotee wants to build a temple, there needs to be active planning and execution to achieve a result. How does one not have the end goal in mind i.e. without being attached to the result.

Thank you!
Yours in service,
Kush

My Dear Kush,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

If the goal is spiritual it is wonderful. But still we leave the result up to Krishna. Even Jesus prays to God, “Father, not my will, but Thy will be done." Just like, it is my desire to see that the whole world becomes Krishna conscious before I leave my body. But I leave the result up to Krishna.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.

Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari

How I Came to Krishna Consciousness

In a world obsessed with money, fame, and fleeting pleasures—leading nowhere but to the grave or the crematorium—I walked away. Life felt so meaningless, I couldn’t stand it. This is the true story of how I turned my back on the American materialistic dream and discovered something far greater: Krishna consciousness. A gripping journey of inner revolution and a call to awaken a world civilization on the edge of collapse.
