There Was Amazing Intimacy in ISKCON's Early Days

December 27, 2025

Srila Prabhupada was so much of a loving father to his disciples that he affectionately said that this disciples were his mothers and fathers and that if they wanted to keep him a place he would never leave. When the devotees heard these words that Srila Prabhupada spoke to reporter in London they all cheered "Hari bol!" with great enthusiasm.

In this mood of wanting to keep Srila Prabhupada from leaving, once in airport to keep Prabhupada from leaving to go to India, his disciple Jānakī mischievously stole the ticket and passport from Prabhupāda's hand. "Now you can't go," she said.
"That's all right," he smiled. "I already have my boarding ticket. I am Indian. They will let me into my own country."

Srila Prabhupada was very pleased, as you can see from the photo below, to have such intimate dealings with his disciples that he described as his most beloved "fathers and mothers."

My dear respected Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

I understand that Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and that you are His representative in my life. My mission and ultimate purpose in this life is to serve Kṛṣṇa by following your instructions. I trust you, and I believe in you.

I very much appreciate that you remain with me through all my ups and downs. You are like a father teaching me how to ride a bicycle. I may fall down, but there is no other option than to get up and try better.

I am reading The Nectar of Devotion and listening to Śrīla Prabhupāda’s lectures on it. Prabhupāda wonderfully explains that by reading The Nectar of Devotion, one associates with Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī, and by following it one serves his lotus feet. What wonderful news!

Your servant,
Kaspars

How I Came to Krishna Consciousness

In a world obsessed with money, fame, and fleeting pleasures—leading nowhere but to the grave or the crematorium—I walked away. Life felt so meaningless, I couldn’t stand it. This is the true story of how I turned my back on the American materialistic dream and discovered something far greater: Krishna consciousness. A gripping journey of inner revolution and a call to awaken a world civilization on the edge of collapse.
