It's Hard for Maya to Hit a Moving Target

If you will always stay active in Krishna's service in accordance with the advice of the original time management guru, Srila Rupa Goswami, who said that one should not waste even a single moment by not engaging it in Krishna's service, you will not be an easy target for maya. In other words, maya, the illusory energy, will not be able to capture you. Just as it is difficult to shoot a moving target, one who is always active in the service of the Lord will not become captured by maya.

Question: Should Only Bhagavad-gita Be Studied?

Hare Krishna Guru Maharaja,
Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

My question is:
The Gita-mahatmya states: "gita su-gita kartavya kimanyaih sastra vistaraih", which means, "One need not read any other Vedic literature. Because Bhagavad-gita is spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself one need only attentively and regularly hear and read Bhagavad-gita. In this age it is not possible for mundane man to read all Vedic literatures. This one book Bhagavad-gita will suffice, because it is the essence of all Vedic literatures and especially spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead."

Also, it is stated: "ekam sastram devaki-putra gitam" - "Let there be one common scripture for whole world - Bhagavd-gita."

At the same time, devotees are encouraged to constantly hear and read other literatures like Srimad-Bhagavatam, Teachings of Lord Caitanya, Nectar of Devotion, etc. So why is there contradiction in these instructions?

Answer: Bhagavad-gita and Scriptures With the Same Conclusion

There is no contradiction. If one is too much limited in time like for example a person who is working two or three jobs, he may study and follow only the Bhagavad-gita and become perfect. But anyone with a normal schedule is encouraged to study along with the Bhagavad-gita those scriptures which present the same conclusion as the Bhagavad-gita, namely that one should fully surrender himself to Krishna. This additional reading will help them to gain a deeper understanding of the Bhagavad-gita and further their progress on the pathway back to home, back to Godhead.
