The Flowers in Goloka Are Ever-Fresh
September 24, 2025
These Flowers Never Get Old
These Flowers Get Old and Rot
Here in this material world, whether picked or unpicked, flowers are fresh, gorgeous, and wonderfully scented for only a limited time before they lose their luster and rot. But in Goloka Vrindavan the flowers are eternally beautiful and fragrant. This is confirmed in the following verse and purport from the Srimad Bhagavatam 3.28.15:
matta-dvirepha-kalayā
parītaṁ vana-mālayā
parārdhya-hāra-valaya-
kirīṭāṅgada-nūpuram
He (Krishna) also wears around His neck a garland of attractive sylvan flowers, and a swarm of bees, intoxicated by its delicious fragrance, hums about the garland. He is further superbly adorned with a pearl necklace, a crown and pairs of armlets, bracelets and anklets.
PURPORT
From this description it appears that the flower garland of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is fresh. Actually, in Vaikuṇṭha, or the spiritual sky, there is nothing but freshness. Even the flowers picked from the trees and plants remain fresh, for everything in the spiritual sky retains its originality and does not fade. The fragrance of the flowers picked from the trees and made into garlands does not fade, for both the trees and the flowers are spiritual. When the flower is taken from the tree, it remains the same; it does not lose its aroma. The bees are equally attracted to the flowers whether they are on the garland or on the trees. The significance of spirituality is that everything is eternal and inexhaustible. Everything taken from everything remains everything, or, as has been stated, in the spiritual world one minus one equals one, and one plus one equals one. The bees hum around the fresh flowers, and their sweet sound is enjoyed by the Lord. The Lord's bangles, necklace, crown and anklets are all bedecked with invaluable jewels. Since the jewels and pearls are spiritual, there is no material calculation of their value.
Here at ISKCON Austin we are regularly buying fresh flowers at great expense to decorate the altar and for flower garlands. But in Goloka there is no need to purchase fresh flowers because there are ever-fresh, unlimitedly fragrant flowers growing everywhere unlimitedly which can be freely picked as much as you want.

Today you are departing on an around-the-world lecture. How do you feel about this?Answer
It is always an exciting, thrilling feeling to be heading out on an around-the-world lecture tour. I distinctly remember on one such occasion as we waiting inside the Austin airport to board our flight to London I was remembering that the whole world is going to become Krishna consciousness as predicted by Sri Caitanya. Mahaprabhu:saj-jana, durjana, paṅgu, jaḍa, andha-gaṇa
prema-vanyāya ḍubāila jagatera jana
The Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement will inundate the entire world and drown everyone, whether one be a gentleman, a rogue or even lame, invalid or blind.
(CC Ādi 7.26)
In this connection I understood that since some day the whole world is going to become Krishna those who participate in spreading Krishna consciousness are going to go down in history as the saviors of the world. And nowadays I am further realizing that this applies to all those who participate in this movement in any way, shape, or form whether they are making a big contribution or a small contribuition.
This understanding is confirmed from this story from the Ramayana as told by His Holiness Satsvarupa Maharaja.
There is a nice story that occured at the time Rama Chandra and the monkeys were building a bridge across the ocean to reach Lanka. Hanuman and the other Vanaras were hefting huge boulders and throwing them into the sea. In the course of such tremendous labor, Hanuman spied an insignificant spider, who appeared to be brushing some specks of dust into the water with its back legs. “What are you doing, worthless?” Hanuman asked of the spider. “I am helping Rama Chandra build His bridge, “ the spider replied.
Hanuman was about to move the spider out of the way of his own serious work, when Rama Chandra interposed, saying, “What are you doing, Hanuman? This spider is worth as much as you are by doing his utmost for Me.“
Of course, I am going to miss being in Austin, where we have got a nice piece of land and are going to build a temple, and I very much look forward to our return.

How I Came to Krishna Consciousness
In a world obsessed with money, fame, and fleeting pleasures—leading nowhere but to the grave or the crematorium—I walked away. Life felt so meaningless, I couldn’t stand it. This is the true story of how I turned my back on the American materialistic dream and discovered something far greater: Krishna consciousness. A gripping journey of inner revolution and a call to awaken a world civilization on the edge of collapse.Read My Memoir You'll Love It!
