Krishna is a Wonderful Linguist

September 5 2025

Krishna

Sometimes on my morning walks when I hear the birds chirping it reminds how Krishna can understand the language of the birds and even speak to them in their own languages. In this connection Srila Prabhupada writes as follows in The Nectar of Devotion:

Rūpa Gosvāmī says that a person who knows the languages of different countries, especially the Sanskrit language, which is spoken in the cities of the demigods—as well as other worldly languages, including those of the animals—is called a wonderful linguist. It appears from this statement that Kṛṣṇa can also speak and understand the languages of the animals. An old woman in Vṛndāvana, present at the time of Kṛṣṇa's pastimes, once stated in surprise, "How wonderful it is that Kṛṣṇa, who owns the hearts of all the young girls of Vrajabhūmi, can nicely speak the language of Vrajabhūmi with the gopīs, while in Sanskrit He speaks with the demigods, and in the language of the animals He can even speak with the cows and buffalo! Similarly, in the language of the Kashmir Province, and with the parrots and other birds, as well as in most common languages, Kṛṣṇa is so expressive!" She inquired from the gopīs as to how Kṛṣṇa had become so expert in speaking so many different types of languages.

The bottom line is that there is no more amazing than Krishna. How unlimitedly fortunate we are that Srila Prabhupada has given us Krishna as well as the art of how to become Krishna's pure devotees.

Hare Kṛṣṇa, Prabhuji,
Please accept my humble obeisances at your lotus feet
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

Prabhuji, I’m very much tensed… The whole day I just sit in my room doing nothing productive and just cry… I feel unheard and ignored.

I paint for our temple. Under my senior, I serve in stage decoration and painting sevas in the temple. But I feel that only when some service is there do they take care of my needs and everything I require for serving.

I understand that service comes through guru-paramparā and that service is to be our life and soul. I also want to be used in service.

But, Prabhuji, after the service is done, I get ignored and sometimes unheard. I feel very isolated…

Sometimes I even think nobody loves me… I question my existence, that I’m completely useless…
Sometimes I also think, “Why would Kṛṣṇa even care about someone like me? I’m not a pure devotee, and Kṛṣṇa is busy doing līlā-vilāsa with His pure devotees. Why would He even care about an insect like me, who is useless?”

I’m very depressed… I feel very lonely.

Your servant,
Shruti

My Dear Shruti,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

Don’t be depressed. You are never alone. Krishna is with you and the bona fide spiritual master, the acharya, is always with you in the form of his instructions. So you should never feel alone. Krishna loves you unlimitedly, more than you can ever imagine. And His love comes to you from within your heart, in the form of the scriptures and His holy names, and through the kindness of the bona fide spiritual master.

It is very nice that you think yourself very humbly as an insect. But kindly note that Krishna loves even the insects unlimitedly. We see Krishna’s love for the small creatures manifested through His pure devotee Srila Prabhupada. In this connection here is an nice remembrance of Srila Prabhupada from my Godsister, Govinda devi dasi:

On one particular afternoon, Srila Prabhupada was comfortably seated in a chair, and I was sitting on the ground beside him. He was softly chanting japa, enjoying the fresh ocean air, mixed with the fragrance of roses and other flowers. Occasionally he would say something but mostly he would chant softly. Suddenly beside my sitting place I saw a large brown slug in all its slimy ugliness. Somewhat repulsed I leaned away from the creature. Srila Prabhupada looked at me quizzically and I said: "Ugh, look at this", pointing to the slimy, sliding creature. Srila Prabhupada leaned forward and looked at the slug, his face grew full of love and compassion, and he said to me: "Chant to the poor creature", and so I sat there, chanting Hare Krsna to the slimy, yet benedicted slug for some time until he slithered away. He had incredible compassion even for the most abominable creature. Srila Prabhupada, I can never forget the sound of your voice when you gave me that instruction. In it, your whole mission was encapsulated. "Chant to the poor creature".Your face looked pained, full of compassion for the poor jiva in that slimy body. You did not see the ugly slug that I saw. You saw the soul covered in suffering, forgetful of Krishna. From that moment my heart opened for all creatures and I glimpsed the depth of your divine compassion.

So kick out your depression. It is a useless waste of time. Always be blissful celebrating your identity as Krishna's eternal servant.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.

Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari

How I Came to Krishna Consciousness

In a world obsessed with money, fame, and fleeting pleasures—leading nowhere but to the grave or the crematorium—I walked away. Life felt so meaningless, I couldn’t stand it. This is the true story of how I turned my back on the American materialistic dream and discovered something far greater: Krishna consciousness. A gripping journey of inner revolution and a call to awaken a world civilization on the edge of collapse.
