First, We Are Ignored Then We Are Abhored and Finally We Are Adored

Adored

At first the Krishna Consciousness movement was ignored. Nobody noticed us. But after it began spreading and becoming more and more popular with the youth of America, people began to notice, and they hated us — they abhorred us. They considered us a dangerous threat. One politician said, “The Hare Krishnas are spreading like an epidemic. They are a great danger. They are spreading like wildfire, and if they are not stopped, they will eventually take over the government.”

But finally, they came to adore us, as Śrīla Prabhupāda explained in a lecture in 1972:

Just like in Europe and America, the papers are now discussing our Movement. They say, “They are nice people, and we want more of them.” At least, they are saying like that. [laughter] Yes. “These Hare Krishna people, they are very nice, and we want more of them.”

So the preachers of Krishna consciousness should never be discouraged if they are ignored or abhorred, because if they keep preaching, in due course of time they will be adored.

And ultimately, that day will come when the whole world adores our movement and everyone becomes a devotee.

P.S. Can anyone tell me where this saying, “Ignore, Abhor, and Adore,” came from? I must have heard it somewhere, but I can’t remember where. According to ChatGPT, this is an original aphorism coined by me. But I don’t believe that. I must have heard it somewhere. If any of you, my dear students and disciples, can tell me where it is found, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hare Krishna Srila Gurudeva,
Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Your Grace, Srimati Gurumataji and Srila Prabhupada.

Your Thought for the Day convinced me to the stick to my core belief, which is well captured in the (Indian) idiom:

सच और साहस है जिसके मन में, अंत में जीत उसी की रहे
(The one who has truth and courage in his heart, wins in the end)

I feel that in Kali Yuga (age of hypocrisy and quarrel), it takes a lot of courage to hold on to the truth. Thank you for your continuous encouragement.

Please note that I have updated your 2025 travel schedule at: https://www.sankarshandas.com/schedule

Please get back if you have any concerns with making your travel schedule public (accessible on the internet) OR with respect to my services. I will do as you instruct.

Regards,
Dhiraj.

From: Austin, Texas USA
My Dear Dhiraj,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

I am happy to hear that this recognized Indian idiom

सच और साहस है जिसके मन में, अंत में जीत उसी की रहे
(The one who has truth and courage in his heart, wins in the end)

supports the concept that right makes might that I published in Thought for Day on 8 September 2025.

Here’s a poem this regard:

I speak the truth. It never fails.
The whole material world is off the rails.

Thank for posting the our current schedule.

My instruction to you is to fully absorb yourself in Krishna consciousness and as far as possible share it with everyone you meet.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.

Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari

How I Came to Krishna Consciousness

In a world obsessed with money, fame, and fleeting pleasures—leading nowhere but to the grave or the crematorium—I walked away. Life felt so meaningless, I couldn’t stand it. This is the true story of how I turned my back on the American materialistic dream and discovered something far greater: Krishna consciousness. A gripping journey of inner revolution and a call to awaken a world civilization on the edge of collapse.
