What is the True Meaning of Christmas?
25 December 2024
What does Santa Claus and the reindeer have to do with Lord Jesus Christ? Nothing. If's time that we bring Jesus back to Christmas. Jesus Christ is a pure devotee of Krishna, described by Srila Prabhupada in this way: "We accept him ΕaktyΔveΕa avatΔra, a living entity especially powered from God."According to the Aquarian Gospel, before he began his preaching mission in Israel he lived in the Jagannath temple in Jagannath Puri, associated with the priests there and had philosophical discussions with them. One of them was very friendly with him. He also witnessed the Ratha Yatra festival.
In Israel his teaching even the most basic spirituality was too much for them. So they crucified him. Just see what a hero he is. He is not an ordinary man. In spite of being crucified he prayed to Krishna in this way: "Father, forgive them because they do not know what they are doing."
They call this the holiday season. Holiday means "holy day." Instead of taking this time away from school or work to increase their God consciousness, they take this as a time to increase their sense gratification. This is how degraded the modern day society has become. The Krishna consciousness movement wants to bring the Christians back to being real Christians. the Muslims back to being real Muslims, etc. Whatever religion the people profess we want to bring them back to being true followers of that religion. In this way the whole world in every town, village, hamlet, and home will become peaceful and happy. Everyone in all corners of the world will be chanting the holy names of God every day.

Why do the Hare Krishnas celebrate Christmas?Gerry de la Pena
Answer
My Dear Gerry,
Christmas is not on the official calendar of holidays of the Hare Krishna movement. However, even though I am one of the leaders of the Hare Krishna movement I celebrate Christmas at every minute because it was Jesus Christ who brought me to Krishna consciousness because he teaches the principle of full surrender to the will of God. Praise Jesus! There is no difference between Christ consciousness and Krishna consciousness. Those who make a distinction have not yet realized the true meaning of religion, which is to awaken pure love of God within the heart.
