Do You Feel Like a Stranger in a Strange Land?

If you feel like a stranger in a strange land, you have been blessed with a higher understanding of who you are and where you have come from. Your path of spiritual awakening has begun.

The fact is that for a person who is eternal, full of bliss, and full knowledge, which is us, this material world where everyone is temporary, full of ignorance, and full of misery is indeed a very, very strange place. We are just a like a fish of water who can't even breathe when he is washed up on the land.

However, the beauty of the Krishna Consciousness Movement is that if you embrace the world deliverance mission of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu as your very life and soul you will feel quite at home and happy even in this world of birth and death because the material energy will not be able to touch you.

Questions and Answers

How many prayers a day are there in Hinduism?

Shriram Ramesh

Answer

Hindu is a word from Muslims. Thus the followers of India’s original Vedic culture do not like the word “Hindu.” There are no set rules for how many prayers a day. But the great saint Hari Das Thakur, who is the namacarya, the acarya for chanting the holy names of God, chanted the Hare Krishna mantra (Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare / Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare) continuously 24 hours a day. Modern day members of the Krishna consciousness movement chant the Hare Krishna mantra at least 16x108 times every day on their japa mala beads. Such chanting brings one into direct contact with Krishna (God). Thus it brings great joy and peace to the sincere chanter. Such chanting can transform the whole world into a paradise with no wars and no more crime.
