Nietzche Said that God is Dead

20 December 2024

Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (15 October 1844 – 25 August 1900) was a German classical scholar, philosopher, and culture critic, who ended up being one of the most influential of all modern thinkers. He is very famous for his declaration that God is dead.

But Krishna says in Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 10, Verse 34:

mṛtyuḥ sarva-haraś cāham--I am all-devouring death.

So who won?

Sankarshan Das Adhikari

P.S. In 1889, at age 44, he collapsed and then suffered a complete loss of his mental faculties with paralysis. It would have been wonderful if we could have enlightened him with Krishna consciousness, the perfection of science and philosophy.

Questions and Answers

Please accept my humble obeisance to you, Srila Gurudeva,

May I enquire? When I am hungry I know that my purpose is to feed myself. But when I am fed after that I don't know what is the purpose of my life.

Is my purpose to spread love?

What will happen if we learn how to love God?

Yours obediently
Shivani

My Dear Shivani,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Your purpose is to awaken the dormant love for God that is sleeping within your heart. You have not yet fed this to yourself. When your dormant love for God becomes awakened your purpose will be to deliver the whole world from Godlessness.

In this regard Prahlada Maharaja prayed as follows in Srimad Bhagavatam, Fifth Canto, Chapter 18, Text Nine:

svasty astu viśvasya khalaḥ prasīdatāṁ
dhyāyantu bhūtāni śivaṁ mitho dhiyā
manaś ca bhadraṁ bhajatād adhokṣaje
āveśyatāṁ no matir apy ahaitukī

"May there be good fortune throughout the universe, and may all envious persons be pacified. May all living entities become calm by practicing bhakti-yoga, for by accepting devotional service they will think of each other's welfare. Therefore let us all engage in the service of the supreme transcendence, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, and always remain absorbed in thought of Him."

I hope this meets you in the best of health.
Your ever well-wisher,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari
