Again You Become a Mouse

In a Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam class given on May 27, 1972 in Los Angeles Srila Prabhupada told us this wonderful story:

Punar mūṣiko bhava: "Again become a mouse." You know this story, punar mūṣiko bhava? There is a story. There is a very nice story. One rat, a mouse, he came to a saintly person. Everyone comes to saintly person for some blessing, you see. Real blessing they don't want. Some material blessing. Real blessing, Kṛṣṇa, they don't want. But if you give him some blessing that "You become very rich man and this...," they'll be very much pleased. So this mouse also came and begged the saintly person, "Sir, I am in difficulty. If you give me some blessings?" "What is that?" "Now, the cat chases after me always. I'm very unhappy." "So what do you want?" "Now, if you make me a cat, then I can get relief from this." "All right, you become cat." So he became cat.
So after few days, again he comes: "Sir, again I am in trouble." "What is that?" "The dog is chasing me." [laughter] Don't laugh; hear seriously. "Dog is chasing." "All right, then what do you want?" "Now, make me a tiger." "All right, you become a tiger." So when he became a tiger he was staring on the saintly person like this [gesticulates]. So he asked, "Why you are staring upon me? You want to eat me?" "Yes." So he again curses, punar mūṣiko bhava: "Again you become mouse. Again you become mouse."
So that is our position. We are advanced in civilization; now we want to kill God. So we are again going to be uncivilized, to remain in the forest and to remain naked.

My conclusion: Let us learn a lesson from this. It is not that since we have become so materially advanced that we can now deny God. By His grace we have become so materially advanced. If we deny Him we will lose everything. Our material civilization will collapse.

My name is R. B. Prabhuji, whenever I sit for japa, I am unable to concentrate. One after the other past tensions, present tensions and future tensions disturb me. I think God doesn't want me to chant His holy name. Prabhuji, am I a sinner? Is it due to my past life sin that God hates me? Please show me the path and kindly guide me as how should I concentrate.

I'm feeling very guilty.

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Krishna loves you unlimitedly. We are all sinners. So it takes
time to become perfect meditators on Krishna’s holy names.

Just a little child who has trouble learning how to walk think that Krishna does not walk him to walk? No, of course not. He simply must keep trying until he masters the art of walking.

So, you are 100% wrong in thinking that Krishna just not want to you chant. It is stated in the Bṛhan-Nāradīya Purāṇa:

harer nāma harer nāma
harer nāmaiva kevalam
kalau nāsty eva nāsty eva
nāsty eva gatir anyathā

”’In this Age of Kali there is no other means, no other means, no other means for self-realization than chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name of Lord Hari.’

So you simply must continue practicing the art of chanting by bringing your mind back to holy names until your mind becomes fixed in the holy names. Just as a drum player
had to practice a lot until he became an expert drum player, similarly it takes a lot of practice to become an expert chanter of the holy names. Practice makes perfect. So keep practicing and someday your mind will become totally
absorbed in the Lord’s unlimitedly sweet holy names.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here.
