In Bhagavad-gita 4.2 we read the following:evaṁ paramparā-prāptam
imaṁ rājarṣayo viduḥ
"This supreme science was thus received through the chain of disciplic succession, and the saintly kings understood it in that way."

One may wonder that since Srila Vyasdeva gave the Vedic knowledge 5,000 years and the next link in the line was Madhva who was born in 1118 A.D., how is it possible that there can such a big gap in our sampradaya. Srila Prabhupada has answered this question as follows in a letter his his disciple Dayananda Das:
"Regarding parampara system: there is nothing to wonder for big gaps. Just like we belong to the Brahma Sampradaya, so we accept it from Krishna to Brahma, Brahma to Narada, Narada to Vyasadeva, Vyasadeva to Madhva, and between Vyasadeva and Madhva there is a big gap. But it is sometimes said that Vyasadeva is still living, and Madhva was fortunate enough to meet him directly."

Srila Gurudev,
Kindly guide me how I should deal with my negative thoughts and desires. I am trying to ignore them and focus on my devotional service but sometimes I failed, Srila Gurudev. How to handle such situation?
Your aspiring servant,
Vaisnavapriya Devi Dasi.

Answer
From: Sri Vrindavan Dhama, IndiaMy Dear Vaisnavapriya,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
You have to find positive things to absorb your mind in. Fill your mind with such positive thoughts that there is no room for the negative thoughts to enter.
In this regard Lord Sri Krishna says:
viṣayā vinivartante
nirāhārasya dehinaḥ
rasa-varjaṁ raso 'py asya
paraṁ dṛṣṭvā nivartate
"Though the embodied soul may be restricted from sense enjoyment, the taste for sense objects remains. But ceasing such engagements by experiencing a higher taste, he is fixed in consciousness." Bg 2.59
For example, a good start is the read the Nectar of Devotion
3 or 4 times and memorize key points such as the six characteristics pure devotional service and go over them again and again in your mind. In this you can get a higher
taste and you will forget the lower taste of sense enjoyment.
I hope this meets you in the best of health.
Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari
