ISKCON Will Save the World from Barbarianism

21 February 2025

Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON movement is destined to save the world. In this connection Srila Prabhupada wrote in London on 13 November 1969 to his disciple, Jayasri:

"Our movement is the greatest gift to the human race. They may not immediately appreciate it, but time will come and history will give evidence that this movement saved the human society from being fallen into barbarianism."

It is certainly Srila Prabhupada's mercy upon us that we have gotten this opportunity to participate in the Krishna consciousness movement.

Transcendental Correspondence

Hare Krishna Srila Gurudev,
Please accept this little servant's humble obeisances. All glories to you and Srila Prabhupada.

I understood that Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but I am confused that people say Shri Ram is the avatar of Lord Vishnu. However, Shri Krishna told that whenever and wherever religious practice declines, He appears millennium after millennium in His original transcendental form to deliver the pious and annihilate the miscreants.

So in that sense Lord Ram should be the avatar of Krishna and not Vishnu?

Another doubt is that Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita, 3rd Chapter, 9th Shlok, says work done as a sacrifice for Vishnu has to be performed. But Krishna is the Supreme Lord, so work done as a sacrifice for Krishna should be ideal? Maybe I am not able to understand the concept of avatar or something. Please provide me with the knowledge and kindly clear my doubt, Gurudev.

Shinjan Singhan

My Dear Shinjan,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Krishna is the origin of everyone and everything. He is also known as Vishnu. So we can also say that everything comes from Vishnu. And we can also say that everything should be done for Vishnu.

In this connection Srila Prabhupada writes in his purport to SB 4.19.37:

"Sometimes Lord Viṣṇu appears in His person as Lord Kṛṣṇa or Lord Rāma.”

So we can say that Rama is an avatar of Krishna. Or we can also say that He is avatar of Vishnu. Both are correct. Vishnutattva is the category of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Krishna, Rama, and Vishnu and are all in the category of Vishnutattva. Thus they are all Vishnu.

Leave aside mental speculation and hear and accept what the great Vaisnava authorities say. But y u can also inquire submissively until all of your doubts are removed.

I hope this meets you in the best of health.
Your ever well-wisher,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari
