Properly Serving the Holy Name

Krishna's devotee is very sincere in his desire to be a pure chanter of Krishna's holy names. He knows that by this pure chanting Krishna will personally reveal Himself to His devotee and that by this pure chanting the devotee can make the whole world Krishna conscious. This is explained as follows by Srila Prabhupada in his purport to Sri Caitanya Caritamrita, Adi Lila, Chapter 7, Text 83,

"A sincere student aurally receives the holy name from the spiritual master, and after being initiated he follows the regulative principles given by the spiritual master. When the holy name is properly served in this way, automatically the spiritual nature of the holy name spreads; in other words, the devotee becomes qualified in offenselessly chanting the holy name. When one is completely fit to chant the holy name in this way, he is eligible to make disciples all over the world, and he actually becomes jagad-guru. Then the entire world, under his influence, begins to chant the holy names of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra."

Therefore what could be more important in the life of devotee than his becoming a pure chanter of Krishna's unlimitedly nectarean holy names?

Answer: Purely Chant Hare Krishna
From: London

My Dear Göran and Madeleine,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Today and every day from now on chant Krisna's holy names with absolute purity by strictly avoiding the ten offenses, which are as follows:

(1) To blaspheme the devotees who have dedicated their lives for propagating the holy name of the Lord.
(2) To consider the names of demigods like Lord Śiva or Lord Brahmā to be equal to, or independent of, the name of Lord Viṣṇu. (Sometimes the atheistic class of men take it that any demigod is as good as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Viṣṇu. But one who is a devotee knows that no
demigod, however great he may be, is independently as good s the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Therefore, if someone thinks that he can chant "Kālī, Kālī!" or "Durgā, Durgā!"and it is the same as Hare Kṛṣṇa, that is the greatest offense.)
(3) To disobey the orders of the spiritual master.
(4) To blaspheme the Vedic literature or literature in pursuance of the Vedic version.
(5) To consider the glories of chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa to be imagination.
(6) To give some interpretation on the holy name of the Lord.
(7) To commit sinful activities on the strength of the holy name of the Lord. (It should not be taken that because by chanting the holy name of the Lord one can be freed from all kinds of sinful reaction, one may continue to act sinfully and after that chant Hare Kṛṣṇa to neutralize his sins. Such a dangerous mentality is very offensive and should be avoided.)
(8) To consider the chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa one of the auspicious ritualistic activities offered in the Vedas as fruitive activities (karma-kāṇḍa).
(9) To instruct a faithless person about the glories of the holy name.(Anyone can take part in chanting the holy name of the Lord, but in the beginning one should not be instructed about the transcendental potency of the Lord. Those who are too sinful cannot appreciate the transcendental glories of the Lord, and therefore it is better not to instruct them in this matter.)
(10) To not have complete faith in the chanting of the holy names and to maintain material attachments, even after understanding so many instructions on this matter.

It is also offensive to be inattentive while chanting.

If you can strictly avoid these offenses, Krishna will personally reveal Himself to you and your chanting will have an uplifting, purificatory impact on the entire universe.

Hoping this meets you in good health.
Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari
