Question: How to Conquer the Mind?
Respected Guru,May I ask you questions regarding to Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 2, Text 15 as follows?
"O best among men [Arjuna], the person who is not disturbed by happiness and distress and is steady in both is certainly eligible for liberation."
The Supreme Lord Krishna is advising Arjuna to be steady / stable minded when it comes to face happiness or distress, bad or comfortable experiences on the path of life.
Is it possible for a common man who is devotee of Lord and not as perfect in mind and self control as a person in the renounced order of life to be stable minded in such cases?
Lord Buddha also taught us that the person who has conquered his mind is the real victorious person in life. But how to balance and conquer the mind in such situations?
Kindly forgive my asking long questions and free me from my ignorance in this regard. Thank you for giving us valuable gems of divine knowledge,
My prayers to the Lord for you to be in good health and for the success of your mission to make world peaceful forever.
Hope that with the Lord's grace you are in good health.
Humbly,
Ramesh Raman
Answer: See Everything as the Special Mercy of Krishna
From: Solferino, MauritiusMy Dear Ramesh Raman,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
Your questions are very nice. Thank you for making such sincere inquiries.
Arjuna was not in the renounced order of life. He was a family man. But yet these instructions from Krishna were perfect for him. It is very simple to develop steadiness of mind. Simply train yourself to see everything as the special mercy of Krishna to help you become more and more surrendered to Him. In this way, if you will always keep this in mind, you will always be perfectly peaceful and happy in all situations of so-called happiness and distress.
Thank you very much for your well-wishes in regards to our preaching mission. I am eternally indebted to you for praying to Krishna for my success in my endeavor to make the whole world peaceful by enlightening the people in the science of Krishna consciousness.
I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.
Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari
