Always Keep a Cool Head

Both in preaching and in our ordinary daily dealings we naturally often have to face reverse situations. When this happens we must be tolerant and not carried away by anger. We must keep a cool head by always thinking, speaking, and acting in a way that is in accordance with the instructions of the scriptures and the spiritual master. In this way, every day we will make steady advancement on the pathway back to home, back to Godhead, and we will have a positive, uplifting impact on the the crazy world that surrounds us.

Question: How to Convince a Christian Not to Eat Meat?

Hare Krishna Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.

All glories to Your Divine Grace and Srimati Gurumata ji.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I was preaching to one of my Christian friends. When I asked him if he follows the commandment "Thou shall not kill," he said, "yes" that he does not kill any man. He said that God made meat so that human beings can satisfy their hunger. He said that just as one can eat trees similarly one can eat meat. He mentioned that even vegetable has souls. How to convince him by eating meat he is not following the 6th commandment?

Your servant,

Answer: Dull-Headed Meat Eaters Cannot Understand

Those who eat meat have dull brains. This is why we sometimes call them "meat heads." Their brains are so dull they cannot understand that whether you kill a man or you kill an animal you are still killing. We eat the fruit of the tree without killing the tree. We agree that eat vegetables is also killing. Since we have to eat something Krishna has given us sanction that we can eat vegetables on the condition that we first offer them to Him with love and devotion. Krishna has made this concession for vegetables, but He has not given this concession for meat. We have to eat in accordance with the laws of God, not in accordance with our lusty desires. If the Christians want to eat meat, they should let the animals die naturally. Then they can satisfy their lust for rotting flesh without incurring the sin of murdering an innocent animal. They do not realize that the karma of meat eating is that they will have to take birth as animals again and again and again to be eaten by the very same animals that they ate.
