Change World to Suit Prabhupada's Teachings

The spiritual potency of the guru parampara system, the age old system of disciplic succession, only remains intact as long as the teachings of the previous acharyas, the predecessor spiritual masters, are passed on without any addition or subtraction. If the teachings are changed to make them more acceptable to the materialists, those teachings become cut off from the disciplic succession and become completely useless. Therefore we must keep Prabhupada's teachings as they are. So, it is not that we should change Prabhupada's teachings to suit the world. Rather we should change the world to suit Prabhupada's teachings.

Question: What Does Krishna Mean by Surrender?

Dear Sir,
Please accept my respectful obeisances!

In the 18th chapter of the Bhagavad-gita Lord Krishna says, "Abandon all varieties of religion and simply surrender unto me. I shall save you from all sinful reactions. Do not worry." This verse has been declared as the essence of the Bhagavad-gita. What is religion as mentioned in this verse, and what is the process of surrendering? Does Krishna ask us to leave our occupational duty and surrender unto Him?

Answer: Only Do What Pleases Him

In this verse religion refers to the various types of processes for elevating the consciousness which have been described in the Bhagavad-gita. Now Arjuna is being advised to give up all other systems of spiritual elevation and simply fully surrender himself unto Krishna.

Surrendering to Krishna means to do what Krishna says you should do and to not do what Krishna says you should not do.

Krishna did not ask Arjuna to give up his occupational duty as a warrior. Rather He ordered Arjuna to engage in his occupational duty and offer the results to Krishna. Krishna is not asking you to give up your occupational duty either. He wants you to engage in your occupational duty and offer the results to Him. In other words, whatever money you earn from your job should all be seen as Krishna’s money and should only be spent in a way that is pleasing to the Lord.
