Suffering is the Pastime of Fools

The most astonishingly marvelous thing about existence is that it is so blissful. Thus it is absolutely pointless for anybody to be suffering, which is nothing but the pastime of fools. All one has to do to be swimming in an ocean of transcendental bliss at every moment is to reconnect himself with the origin of his existence, the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Sri Krishna, by following the simple, uncomplicated instructions which He so benevolently reveals in the Bhagavad-gita.

Question: Who is a Pure Devotee?

Dear Gurudeva,

Hare Krishna!

I would like to know who is a pure devotee among these two persons: one who has renounced his material life and surrendered himself fully to the Lord and the other who is engaged in material life and is still able to remember the Lord in spite of the unfavorable conditions posed by the material nature. Is there any difference between these two?

Your follower,

Malini

Answer: He Who Fully Offers His Life to Krishna

Both of them can easily be pure devotees. As long as one has a material body he must continue engaging in material life for keeping his body fit. The secret of success in life is to spiritualize one's material life by offering it fully in the Lord's service. In this way, his material life will no longer be material and will not be an impediment for his spiritual advancement. It will become fully spiritualized, Krishnized, in the same way that an iron rod which is placed in a fire becomes fully transformed into fire.

The ideal example of a Krishna conscious devotee is Sri Arjuna, who did not renounce his material duty as a warrior. Rather Arjuna engaged his occupational duty fully in Krishna's service and thus became perfect.
