Radharani Doubles Her Krishna Consciousness

Srimati Radharani has a very sublime method for doubling her Krishna consciousness bliss. She simply looks upon the beautiful smiling face of her beloved Lord Krishna. We can do the same thing because the deity of Krishna and the painting of Krishna, if viewed with devotion, are Krishna Himself. Here's what Radharani has to say in this regard as quoted in the Caitanya Caritamrita Antya Lila 17.59:

mana mora vāma-dīna, jala vinā yena mīna,
kṛṣṇa vinā kṣaṇe mari’ yāya
madhura-hāsya-vadane, mana-netra-rasāyane,
kṛṣṇa-tṛṣṇā dviguṇa bāḍāya

“If I do not think of Krishna, My impoverished mind will die within a moment like a fish out of water. But when I see Krishna's sweetly smiling face, My mind and eyes are so pleased that My desire for Him redoubles.”

Since Radharani has been gazing upon Krishna for all eternity, doubling her desire for Krishna with each gaze, we cannot even begin to imagine how heavily she is desiring Krishna. From Radharani's sublime example we learn that if we turn our attention to Krishna, we will reap the most sublime reward of wanting to fully give ourselves to Krishna.

Question: Why Were Horse Sacrifices Performed?

My dear Srila Gurudeva.

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

I would like to know why horse sacrifices were performed to worship King Prithu? Why were such animal sacrifices accepted?

Your eternal servant,

Daniel

Answer: To Create Auspicious Atmosphere on Earth

It is not that horse sacrifices were performed to satisfy King Prithu. Rather it is King Prithu who performed horse sacrifices to create a favorable atmosphere on the planet earth in which all necessities of life were profusely supplied to his citizens.

Regarding horse and cow sacrifices Srila Prabhupada explains as follows in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 1.12.34:

"The horse sacrifice yajna or cow sacrifice yajna performed by the Vedic regulations shouldn't be misunderstood as a process of killing animals. On the contrary, animals offered for the yajna were rejuvenated to a new span of life by the transcendental power of chanting the Vedic hymns, which, if properly chanted, are different from what is understood by the common layman. The Veda-mantras are all practical, and the proof is rejuvenation of the sacrificed animal."

Because in this age there are no suitable brahmanas who can properly chant the mantras for the horse sacrifice or cow sacrifice, such sacrificial ceremonies are forbidden. In this age we are enjoined to instead perform the sankirtan sacrifice, the congregational chanting of the holy names of God, to bring all favorable conditions for happy living to all the citizens of this planet. Therefore it is the duty of all the world governments to arrange for the regular performance of sankirtan for the benefit of their citizens. Because they are neglecting this, the entire world has been cast into turmoil. It is our mission to widely introduce the sankirtan movement in every town and village throughout the globe so that everyone can be happy.
