Here's My New Year's Resolution

1 January 2025

Since we've been ordered by Srila Prabhupada to become pure devotees and deliver the world my new year's resolution is that all of my material desires must now become zero and that I can remain here in the cycle of birth and death until this entire material world becomes Krishna conscious. There is a perfect prayer by Prahlāda Mahārāja this connection in which he prayers for the deliverace of all the suffering souls in this material world. We can also pray this prayer:

svasty astu viśvasya khalaḥ prasīdatāṁ
dhyāyantu bhūtāni śivaṁ mitho dhiyā
manaś ca bhadraṁ bhajatād adhokṣaje
āveśyatāṁ no matir apy ahaitukī

"May there be good fortune throughout the universe, and may all envious persons be pacified. May all living entities become calm by practicing bhakti-yoga, for by accepting devotional service they will think of each other's welfare. Therefore let us all engage in the service of the supreme transcendence, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, and always remain absorbed in thought of Him." SB 5.18.9

Please accept my humble obeisances,

As we hear from Srila Prabhupada, that we are not this material body but the eternal soul, a living entity distinct from matter. Whenever I reflect on this, a thought arises in my mind: why then do we need to fulfill material duties such as working a job or managing a business?

I currently work at a job and run a business to take care of myself and build a future for my family. However, I find myself struggling to give my 100% to my professional responsibilities and in Krishna Consciousness. My question to you, Guru Maharaja, is whether this struggle is a sign of me trying to excuse myself from my duties.

If this is the case, what mindset should I adopt to balance my material responsibilities while sincerely practicing Krishna Consciousness, without getting distracted? I am a struggling soul, trying to achieve harmony between my Krishna Consciousness practice and my professional endeavors. I humbly seek your guidance.

Material duties are required to keep body and soul together.
It is always a struggle to balance material and spiritual duties. However, if you put spiritual duties first you will have the perfect balance because then while engaging in material duties you will be able to remember Krishna and offer the result of those material duties to Him.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here.
