Are You Looking for a Sure Bet?
26 January 2025
It is very beneficial for us that gambling is against our regulative principles because gambling means to throw away our money being lured by the desire to get rich quick. Gambling is the pastime of fools who are captured by the glare of the material energy. We know better than to waste our energy in this way. We don't want to invest our time and energy into something of which the odds are almost 100% stacked against us. Instead we put our time and energy into something in which we are 100% guaranteed to win, devotion to Krishna. Krishna consciousness is a sure bet. We are guaranteed not to lose.
Thank you, Srila Prabhupada, for teaching us the science of Krishna consciousness.Sankarshan Das Adhikari

Hare Krishna Srila Gurudev,Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to you and Srila Prabhupada.
Dear Gurudev, can you please explain the 8th offense to compare the chanting of the holy name to material piety?
Please forgive me for any offences against your Lotus feet.
Your most fallen servant,
Jahanvi
Answer
From: Austin, Texas, USAMy Dear Jahanvi,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
This means to consider the chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa like one of the auspicious ritualistic activities offered in the Vedas as fruitive activities (karma-kāṇḍa), which are done for material benefit. This also includes chanting for any kind of material benefit. For example when going to apply for job someone may chant extra rounds for the purpose of getting hired. Or someone may chanting extra rounds before to take a final exam for purpose of getting a high score on the final exam. This means that instead of chanting Hare Krishna begging Krishna that we can serve Him we chanting Hare Krishna for purpose of asking Krishna to serve us.
I hope this meets you in the best of health.
Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari
