Question: Consciousness and Soul?
Whats the difference between consciousness and soul? Buddhists believe in consciousness, and on the other hand all other religions believe in soul. So, Gurudeva, what is the difference between the two and how can we understand the difference?I would be very grateful if you could remove my ignorance.
Thank you and looking forward to your reply.

Answer: Like Sunshine and the Sun
From: Munich, GermanyMy Dear Apurva,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
Just as sunshine is a manifestation of the sun, consciousness is the manifested energy of the soul. Srila Prabhupada very nicely explains this as follows in his purport to Bhagavad-gita 13.34:
"As the sun is situated in one place, but is illuminating the whole universe, so a small particle of spirit soul, although situated in the heart of this body, is illuminating the whole body by consciousness. Thus consciousness is the proof of the presence of the soul, as sunshine or light is the proof of the presence of the sun."
I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.
Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari
