Question: Meaning of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra

Hare Krishna!

I've been told by senior devotees that literal meaning of the Hare Krishna mahamantra (Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare) is:

"O Lord, O Energy of the Lord, please engage me in Your service."

Could you kindly explain grammatically how only three words "Hare," "Krishna," and "Rama" can mean such a structured sentence? I think, if I understood the mantra grammatically smaybe chanting it would help me communicate with Krishna.

Answer: Begging for Pure Devotional Service

“Hare" is the energy of the Lord and “Krishna" and “Rama" are the names of the Lord. To attain the perfectional stage of pure love of God we must chant these names in the mood of begging Lord Krishna and His energy (Srimati Radharani) to be purely engaged in their devotional service. Therefore the definition you have been given by the devotees is perfect for guiding you how to chant in proper mood.

Even in this material world a boy in love may say the name of his girlfriend in a soft, tender mood conveying the meaning "I love you," simply by uttering his girlfriend's name without having to utter the words, "I love you." So how much more can depths of meaning be possible on the spiritual platform? Try to intelligently understand this point and train yourself to utter theses sweet holy names in a mood of total surrender. This will have an amazing effect on your consciousness.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here.
