How to Spark Off a Global Spiritual Revolution

Srila Prabhupada writes in his purport to Caitanya Caritamrita, Adi Lila, Chapter 7, Text 83 as follows:

"A sincere student aurally receives the holy name from the spiritual master, and after being initiated he follows the regulative principles given by the spiritual master. When the holy name is properly served in this way, automatically the spiritual nature of the holy name spreads; in other words, the devotee becomes qualified in offenselessly chanting the holy name. When one is completely fit to chant the holy name in this way, he is eligible to make disciples all over the world, and he actually becomes jagad-guru. Then the entire world, under his influence, begins to chant the holy names of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra."

This is the amazing potency of chanting Hare Krishna. A person who chants it purely becomes jagad-guru, the spiritual master of the entire universe, and thus sparks off a global spiritual revolution in which the entire world takes up the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra. Therefore the sincere devotee of the Lord feeling great compassion in his heart for the suffering souls of this material strives diligently to purely chant this most sublime of all combinations of syllables:

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare

Question: Is Making Music the Mode of Passion?

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. All glories to you.

Some devotees say making music, even if your doing it to spread Krishna Consciousness, is in the mode of passion and should only be done by advanced devotees, otherwise weaker devotees will be influenced by the lower modes if they take up that preaching style prematurely. What are your thoughts in this regard ?

Answer: If It Used for Krishna's Service, It Is Transcendental

If a neophyte devotee misuses music for sense gratification and not for Krishna's service, that is certainly wrong and should therefore not be done. But Srila Prabhupada told us, "My Guru Maharaja used to say that anything material, if it is used in the service of Krishna, it is a mistake to give it up." Therefore he approved of using music if it could be used to help people become Krishna conscious. In 1972 I was part of a rock opera, a party of devotees led by His Holiness Vishnujana Swami, who were using drama and modern music for attracting the general public to Krishna consciousness. Srila Prabhupada personally attended our performance at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburg, and applauded after each song that we sang. If it was not proper for us to be doing this, Srila Prabhupada would not have shown an appreciation by applauding after each song.
