The Perfection of Love

In this material world the understanding of love is imperfect. Especially they take love to be the sexual attraction between a man and a woman. Even though this attraction is the binding knot that keeps up perpetually entangled in the cycle of repeated birth and death, due to ignorance this type of love is celebrated as the most wonderful and beautiful of all things. Little do they know that love of God is love's perfection and that the pleasure and satisfaction of loving Krishna or God is millions and billions of times greater than the pleasure of loving a man or woman. Loving a man or a woman is not eliminated by loving God. Rather this love and all types of love become perfect when we give ourselves fully to Lord Sri Krishna in pure loving surrender. Loving God is like watering the root of a tree. When one waters the root of a tree all the leaves and branches are nourished. And if one waters the leaves and branches without watering the root, the tree will not get the water it needs.

Lord Caitanya is Krishna Himself appearing in His most merciful manifestation. Here is a wonderful verse from the Sri Caitanya Caritamrita (Adi 3.63) about Him:

"May the Supreme Personality of Godhead in the form of Lord Sri Caitanya bestow His causeless mercy upon us. His smiling glance at once drives away all the bereavements of the world, and His very words enliven the auspicious creepers of devotion by expanding their leaves. Taking shelter of His lotus feet invokes transcendental love of God at once."

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here. But at least may it suffice for me to say for now that Gayatri taught me what it means to be a soft-hearted devotee of the Lord and she gave me my first cooking lesson, teaching me how to make cauliflower pakoras, and Amarendra taught me the art of how to preach strongly, intelligently, and coolly to defeat opposing arguments.
