The Diksha Guru is Our Final Authority

In ISKCON we are blessed with many preachers who serve as śikṣā-gurus—instructing gurus who guide us on our pathway back home, back to Godhead. They inspire us to fully surrender ourselves to a dīkṣā-guru, an initiating spiritual master, who initiates us and takes full responsibility to take us back to the spiritual world even if he has to take birth after birth to do so. This dīkṣā-guru becomes our final authority. To him we fully surrender ourselves. We still accept the guidance of our śikṣā-gurus, for they help us become perfect in our surrender to our dīkṣā-guru. As a rule the śikṣā-guru’s instructions will always harmonize with the dīkṣā-guru’s instructions. However, if sometimes there is a difference, we always follow the dīkṣā-guru’s instructions, for he is our final authority.

We sometimes hear the bogus philosophy that one can neglect the instructions of the dīkṣā-guru and follow the śikṣā-guru instead. Śrīla Prabhupāda has very strongly warned us about this. He told us that if a śikṣā-guru instructs against the instructions of the dīkṣā-guru, he is not a śikṣā-guru; he is a demon. Thus we must always be careful to accept and not neglect the instructions of our dīkṣā-guru, our spiritual master. His orders are our very life and soul.

A small child may enjoy building a toy house with his building blocks, but when he grows up he becomes satisfied as an architect designing huge skyscraper building having lost all interest in the toys of his childhood.

Similarly, why should one have waste his time playing around in misery when he can play the ultimate ball game of delivering the fallen souls of this material world back to home, back to Godhead?

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here.
