Here is a Letter to my Brother, Bob

Dear Bob,

It was great talking to you today on the phone. I look forward to another phone call when I return to Austin in December. We spoke today about transgenderism. I want to share some more thoughts about this presently very hot topic.

There are many, many millions of people who do not identify with the gender on their birth certificate. I am also one of them. But my sense of rejecting gender is totally different. I am not transgender. I am transcend gender.

The trans people think that by identifying with the opposite gender and transitioning to the opposite gender they will get happiness. But in spite of all the trouble they take to switch genders they will still have to suffer the material miseries of old age, disease, and death. They will eventually be stuck in a wheelchair with a dysfunctional body. As we used to say in the 60’s: What a bummer!

Because people are not satisfied identifying with their body, they switch to the opposite gender. “I tried to be male. I tried to be female. But I can’t get no satisfaction.”

What we are all really hankering for in our heart of hearts is a non-female, non-male identity that is free from all the material miseries: birth, death, old age, and disease. We religious people sometimes say that we have a soul. But the real understanding is that I am a soul and that I am not this body. This body, male or female, is just like a garment that I am temporarily wearing.

In this age the prescribed method for totally becoming free from misidentification with the body is to regularly chant, as a regular daily affair, the holy names of God. This is an ancient science known as mantra yoga. It liberates the chanter from gender consciousness and enables him to enter a state is which he experiences the mercy of God blessing him at every minute. Plus it qualifies one, at the time of death to leave this miserable world behind in an awakened spiritual body that it is eternal, full of knowledge, and full of bliss, a body that never gets sick, never gets old, and never dies.

One can chant the Hare Krishna mantra:

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare

Or one can chant holy names that he feels more comfortable with according to his own religious faith. Muslims can chant “Allah.” Christians can chant “Christ,” etc.

This is why I encourage everyone all over the world to try chanting the holy names of God. It’s better than anything you can buy with millions and billions of dollars, and it’s absolutely free. It is truly the bargain of the century and of all centuries, past, present, and future.

How to be Krishna conscious when I am sick and I am depressed?

Answer

Your first duty is to do whatever is required to get your health back. This means your bodily health and your mental health. For bodily health maintain a balanced, regulated program of proper diet and proper sleep. When you are sick consult a medical doctor and follow ill consult and medical doctor and follows his directions. For mental health, chant at 16 rounds of Hare Krishna daily, follow the four regulative principles and study Prabhupada's every day.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee.
