I Had a Super Ecstatic Visit to Yavat

November 10, 2025

On 9 November I had one of the most ecstatic experiences of visiting a small, super quiet Indian village named Yavat. This viillage goes back for at least 5,000 years. Here's some wonderful information about Yavat:

🌸

1. The Spiritual Identity of Yāvat

Yāvat is the village where ŚrÄ«matÄ« Rādhārāṇī lived after Her marriage to Abhimanyu, under the watchful eyes of Jatila (her mother-in-law) and Kutila (her sister-in-law).

It is about 3 kilometers east of Nandagrāma (where Kṛṣṇa lived), and their divine pastimes between these two villages are filled with transcendental sweetness and spiritual tension — the madhurya rasa at its peak.

Though married in social appearance, Rādhārāṇī’s heart and love belonged only to ŚrÄ« Kṛṣṇa. Thus, Yāvat is the place of separation, longing, and secret meetings — it represents vipralambha-bhāva, the ecstatic mood of love in separation.

2. The Meaning of the Name “Yāvat”

The name “Yāvat” comes from the Sanskrit root yāvat meaning “as long as” or “until.”
It refers to Rādhārāṇī’s stay there — “as long as She lived at Her in-laws’ house.”

It also symbolizes the eternal yearning of the devotees: “As long as we live, may we remember the divine pastimes of ŚrÄ« ŚrÄ« Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa.”

🌷

3. Divine Pastimes (Līlās) at Yāvat

Morning and Evening Darśanas: Kṛṣṇa would daily travel from Nandagrāma to Yāvat to meet Rādhārāṇī under various pretexts — sometimes disguised as a gardener, a milkman, or a messenger.

Separation and Longing
: Rādhārāṇī, unable to meet Kṛṣṇa openly, would express Her feelings through songs, tears, and meditation — this mood is celebrated by the GosvāmÄ«s.

Messages Through the Gopīs:
Śrīmatī Lalitā and Viśākhā would carry messages between the divine couple.

In the words of RÅ«pa GosvāmÄ« and Viśvanātha CakravartÄ« Ṭhākura, Yāvat is where love ripens through separation — the highest expression of divine devotion.

4. Sacred Sites in Yāvat

Rādhārāṇī’s House (Yāvat Mandira):

The main temple marks the home where Rādhārāṇī stayed with Jatila and Kutila.
Devotees can still see the sacred courtyard, rooms, and well.

Kṛṣṇa’s Hidden Meeting Place:

Local guides show a small grove where Kṛṣṇa would secretly meet Rādhā.

SakhÄ«s’ Gathering Place:

A spot where the gopīs would plan their loving pastimes.

Rādhā-kuį¹‡įøa and Śyāma-kuį¹‡įøa Connection:

It is said that after leaving Yāvat, Rādhārāṇī would meet Kṛṣṇa at Rādhā-kuį¹‡įøa — hence, pilgrimages often connect Yāvat with Rādhā-kuį¹‡įøa and Nandagrāma.

5. Yāvat in Scripture and Devotional Literature

Yāvat is mentioned in:

Govinda-lÄ«lāmį¹›ta (Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja GosvāmÄ«)

Ujjvala-nÄ«lamaṇi (RÅ«pa GosvāmÄ«)

Ananda-candrikā and other commentaries by Viśvanātha CakravartÄ« Ṭhākura

Vraja-vilāsa-stava
(Raghunātha Dāsa Gosvāmī)

Each glorifies Yāvat as the place of the purest divine love in apparent separation.

My dear readers I hope that some day you can all visit Yavat, not in the mood of a sightseer, but in the mood of a humble pilgrim. You will receive unlimited spiritual benefit by doing so.

If our soul is truly powerful, why do we struggle so much with our body's habits, fears, and desires? Whether it's a simple goal like waking up early or handling difficult feelings like envy, why does the body often seem to overpower our best intentions?

My Dear Sayani,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

Answer to question 1: We have foolishly misdirected our energy towards matter instead of towards spirit.

Answer to question 2: This is because we foolishly misidentify with our material bodies. We must engage our senses in serving Krishna instead of being a slave of our senses.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.

Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari

How I Came to Krishna Consciousness

In a world obsessed with money, fame, and fleeting pleasures—leading nowhere but to the grave or the crematorium—I walked away. Life felt so meaningless, I couldn’t stand it. This is the true story of how I turned my back on the American materialistic dream and discovered something far greater: Krishna consciousness. A gripping journey of inner revolution and a call to awaken a world civilization on the edge of collapse.
