A Delightful Krishna Pastime in Vraja Badrinath
November 7, 2025
On 6 November 5, 2025 in the mountains of Vraja Badrinath I sang for the devotees the wonderful bhajan, Śrī Vraja-dhāma-mahimāmṛta (The Nectarean Glories of Vraja-dhāma), and told them how by singing this bhajan anywhere in the world they could feel themselves to be back in Vrindavan.Then I shared with them this wonderful Badrinath pastime of Krishna as told by my beloved Godbrother, Dina Bandhu Prabhu;
All the holy places have their original forms in Vraja. So Badrinath is also there. One time, Krishna saw that Mother Yaśodā was making so many funny types of food preparations. They’re called matri, little fried things that will keep for a long time. Sometimes on the train you see the Indian families bring out so many types of little things. They open up a little basket or tiffin and so many food items are there, especially these fried little things. So Mother Yaśodā was making these types of fried things. Krishna said, “Maiya, what type of funny food are you making today?” “Lālā, we’re going on a big trip. So I’m making matri and all these different things to take with us on the journey.” “Acchā! Where are we going?” “Lālā, Your Bābā was praying very much to Lord Badrinātha that somehow he would get a son, and after a long time, we got You as our son. So now he wants to go to Badrinath and offer some puja to Lord Badrinātha in thanksgiving for getting You as our son.” “So Bābā is going to Badrinath. How far away is that?” “About 237 kos.” (about 300 miles) Then Krishna went to Nanda Bābā and He said, “Bābā, are you going to Badrinath?” “Yes, Lālā. I prayed to Lord Badrinārāyaṇa to get You as my son, so I want to go and offer some worship to Him.” “But Bābā, how far away is that?” “Oh, it’s 237 kos!” “No, Bābā. Actually, it’s only 37 kos.” (about 50 miles) Krishna took Nanda Bābā by the finger and said, “I’ll show you. Just bring everybody and we’ll go!”
They traveled hardly any distance, only 37 kos. Upon arriving, they saw a very beautiful forest. So many beautiful tamāla trees.. So they packed up all their matri and so many things, and Krishna showed them Badrinath in Vraja. Nara-nārāyaṇa was there. Uddhava was also there, because we know the Bhāgavatam says that Uddhava went off to Badrinath. Everything was there, the whole family. Then Lālā showed them all the different holy places. Hardwar is there, and even Kedarnath is not far away.
The devotees were in ecstasy to hear this bhajan and pastime. And then they put on a wonderful drama replete with costumes. The local Hindus were amazed to see this drama.

Srila Gurudeva, there are different categories of devotees, some are kanistha devotees, some are madhyama devotees and some are uttama devotees. How to deal with them individually taking their associations?
If there are no uttama devotees in our association where I live, how I can take pure devotee association?
Thank you,
Your servant

Answer
My Dear Nirguna,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.
Even if they are not on the perfectional stage of uttama adhikari, take shelter of and learn from those who are more advanced. Make friends and share realizations with those who are equally advanced, and be merciful, giving good guidance to those who are less advanced.
I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.
Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari

How I Came to Krishna Consciousness
In a world obsessed with money, fame, and fleeting pleasures—leading nowhere but to the grave or the crematorium—I walked away. Life felt so meaningless, I couldn’t stand it. This is the true story of how I turned my back on the American materialistic dream and discovered something far greater: Krishna consciousness. A gripping journey of inner revolution and a call to awaken a world civilization on the edge of collapse.Read My Memoir You'll Love It!
