They Say, "Be Kind to Animals."
October 10, 2025
There is a section in The Nectar of Devotion titled “Not Giving Pain to Any Living Entity,” in which Śrīla Prabhupāda writes as follows:This is the statement of Mahābhārata: "A person who does not disturb or cause painful action in the mind of any living entity, who treats everyone just like a loving father does his children, whose heart is so pure, certainly very soon becomes favored by the Supreme Personality of Godhead."
In so-called civilized society there is sometimes agitation against cruelty to animals, but at the same time regular slaughterhouses are always maintained. A Vaiṣṇava is not like that. A Vaiṣṇava can never support animal slaughter or even give pain to any living entity.
There is a very popular saying, “Be kind to animals.” But after people appreciate this saying, they eat a hamburger or fried chicken. Because they are covered by the mode of ignorance, they think that by simply patting their dog on the head, they have accomplished being kind to animals. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Only Krishna's devotees know the real meaning of being kind to all living beings.

I seek your guidance, Prabhu. When I was watching the movie Mahāvatār Nṛsiṁha, a question arose in my mind:
Why does Lord Vāsudeva in His catur-bhuja (four-armed) form hold the lotus, conch, discus, and mace — and not other symbols?
Why are Kṛṣṇa’s feet called “lotus feet”?
Your servant,

My Dear Sangeeta,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.
Srila Prabhupada describes in his Srimad Bhagavatam purport:
Generally in the four hands of Viṣṇu there are a wheel, club, conchshell and lotus flower. These four symbols are seen in the four hands of Viṣṇu in different arrangements. The club and the wheel are the Lord's symbols of punishment for the demons and miscreants, and the lotus flower and conchshell are used to bless the devotees.
The lotus leaf exudes a waxy substance so that even though in touch with water it does not become wet. Similarly Krishna’s lotus feet, even though in touch with the material world, never become contaminated.
I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.
Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari

How I Came to Krishna Consciousness
In a world obsessed with money, fame, and fleeting pleasures—leading nowhere but to the grave or the crematorium—I walked away. Life felt so meaningless, I couldn’t stand it. This is the true story of how I turned my back on the American materialistic dream and discovered something far greater: Krishna consciousness. A gripping journey of inner revolution and a call to awaken a world civilization on the edge of collapse.Read My Memoir You'll Love It!
