Here's a Wonderful Song to Share with You

October 8, 2025

Here's a wonderful song by the great Vaisnava songwriter, Narottam Das Thakur, that I wanted to share with you, my dear disciples and students. This is the English translation of the famous Bengali Bhajan, Hari Hari Biphale:

Uselessly by Narottam Das Thakur

(translated by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada)
(Melody by Sankarshan Das)

Although I’ve come to this human form
My Lord, I’ve spent my life uselessly.
I did not care for Radha and Krishna
And so I swallow poison knowingly.

Hare Krishna mantra comes straight from Krishnaloka
But with chanting I have no connection.
Day and night I’m burning in this dark world
Without working to make the correction.

Lord Krishna comes as Saci’s son
Balarama descends as Nitai.
By chanting the wretched have all been saved
Including Jagai and Madhai.

Oh my Lord, Oh Son of King Nanda
Together with Vrishabhanu’s daughter.
I’ve got no shelter but Radha and Krishna
Humbly prays Narottam Das Thakur

Although I’ve come to this human form
My Lord, I’ve spent my life uselessly.
I did not care for Radha and Krishna
And so I swallow poison knowingly.

Hare Krishna Srila Gurudev,
Please accept my obeisances.
All glories to you, Gurumata, Srila Prabhupada.

You mentioned before that animals don't accrue Karma which makes sense. Animals cheating for food and not getting bad karma makes sense. When there is no karma, then I would think there is no dharma also among animals. If my assumption is correct, then animals that sacrifice to protect their owner/master not getting any good karma seems harsh from the Maker. I didn't come across any reference to this in scriptures. Kindly clarify.

Your servant,
Caitanya Vani

My Dear Caitanya Vani,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

I am very happy to hear from. I am missing our ISKCON Center in Austin and thus it is a great pleasure for me when any of you ISKCON Austin devotees contact me. Your question is very interesting.

Animals do not suffer any karmic reaction, but they do get the benefit of any service rendered to a devotee. For example, if you have a watchdog that scares away a robber from your house, that dog has unknowingly engaged in devotional service and will be rewarded with a human body in its next life to continue engaging in devotional service.

Just see how merciful is Lord Sri Krishna!!
I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.

Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari

How I Came to Krishna Consciousness

In a world obsessed with money, fame, and fleeting pleasures—leading nowhere but to the grave or the crematorium—I walked away. Life felt so meaningless, I couldn’t stand it. This is the true story of how I turned my back on the American materialistic dream and discovered something far greater: Krishna consciousness. A gripping journey of inner revolution and a call to awaken a world civilization on the edge of collapse.
