Srila Prabhupada Is A Lamb at Home and a Lion in the Chase
October 27, 2025
Srila Prabhupada said, "When I am out I am like a lion in the chase, but when I am home with the devotees, I am a lamb." In preaching we can sometimes become like lions especially when we are challenged by atheists or impersonalists. But then when we come back into the association of devotees we become like gentle lambs.Sankarshan Das Adhikari

Please accept my humble obeisances. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.
I have been in ISKCON from a young boy in the mid 80's and my parents were initiated by xxx..
We have been very active in the pioneering days of ISKCON in xxx however over the past few years the taste of Krishna Consciousness has subsided.
I hope I can be 'open' and speak from my heart with full trust and confidence.
Over the past few years my views are now different as compared to the pioneering days where preaching was the essence and 'doing whatever it takes' to expand the movement. Somehow I feel the 'mood' and the true north has changed.
I am aware ISKCON has two facets:
The spiritual essence — the teachings, presence, and transformation that come from the guru and sastra. This spiritual core is timeless and pure.
The organisational structure — the people, rules, structures, and logistics needed to share the above essence with the world. This is temporal and human and made of people doing their best (sometimes failing) to hold that space.
I always compare the organisation to be a vessel and the teachings as the ocean. I feel the vessel has stopped or is now moving very slowly. If one compares the purity of the older days to now, the dwindling attendance of people and events being so commercialised, there is a cause for concern. There has been a shift - in the spiritual sphere it is maya and in the material sphere it is the change of time. I cannot help but observe that our offerings to the younger thinkers are not appealing. How does one bridge that gap without losing the piety of the message? This is often my dilemma as well. Without hurting the sentiment of the vaishnavas, somehow I feel comfortable following 'the spiritual essence' at home rather than attending a spiritual event which has now become a 'flea market' to sell goods and services.
Having recently followed Your Divine Grace on social media channels and reading your daily anecdotes via email, these words have touched my heart in ways I cannot fully express.
Through your teachings, I have felt a quiet awakening. I wish to purify my mind, open my heart, and dedicate my efforts toward understanding the divine wisdom that you embody and therefore humbly seek your blessings. Please guide me as your student and allow me to walk this sacred path with sincerity and devotion and help me understand the above concerns and navigate a path where Krishna consciousness makes sense in today's world.
Thank you

Answer
My dear X.
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.
Do not worry about organization. Preaching is higher than management. In Vedic culture the managers (kṣatriyas) would always take guidance from the preachers (brāhmaṇas) on how to perform their management in a way that pleases Kṛṣṇa.
You should become a full-blown manifestation of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam in your thoughts, words, and deeds. Become such a powerful preacher that those who are in management will seek your guidance on how to organize ISKCON in such a way that will please Śrīla Prabhupāda.
I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.
Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari

How I Came to Krishna Consciousness
In a world obsessed with money, fame, and fleeting pleasures—leading nowhere but to the grave or the crematorium—I walked away. Life felt so meaningless, I couldn’t stand it. This is the true story of how I turned my back on the American materialistic dream and discovered something far greater: Krishna consciousness. A gripping journey of inner revolution and a call to awaken a world civilization on the edge of collapse.Read My Memoir You'll Love It!
