Remembering My Dear Mother

29 June 2025

Although I was born in America, my parents were not devotees of Krishna. Still, I was blessed with two remarkable parents who possessed many admirable qualities.

My mother, Carolyn Bridge, majored in Voice during college and could sing with great power and beauty. She often sang solos glorifying God during our Sunday morning church services. Even without the aid of a microphone, her voice would fill the entire church sanctuary—the sacred space where the congregation gathered—with a reverberating, soulful sound.

In those days, practically all the women were stay-at-home moms. There was no need for them to work, as the father’s 9-to-5 income was sufficient to comfortably support the family. After finishing her household chores, my mother would often sit at the piano in our living room and sing Christian hymns, immersed in a deep state of spiritual joy.

Wherever my dear mother may be now, I pray she is blessed with pure love of God. And if she is in the spiritual world, I humbly beg her to bless me that my mission of making the world Krishna conscious may be successful.

Happy Ratha Yatra, Guruji.

I bow to your wisdom, Guruji. Kindly guide me on the doubts that have arisen in my mind:
How can one accept a guru in life? What are the proper steps to do so?

Sometimes I find myself comparing my spiritual life with others—thinking that, because I visit Puri more frequently, I may be more favored by the Lord than my friends. Is this a form of pride?

My Dear A.M.

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

The first step for accepting a spiritual is to regularly hear him speaking and/or to regularly read his writing. In this way you will constantly be connected with him and always be receiving his blessings for the awakening of pure love of God within your heart.

God is so wonderful and kind that accepts every one of us as His most special servant. So now we have to reciprocate with Him by accepting Him as our dearmost well-wishing friend and always fully absorb ourselves in loving and serving Him with our every thought, word, and deed from now on for all of eternity.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.

Your ever well-wisher,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari
