Do You Know Who You Really Are?

Instead of being overly concerned about how to make a living, which is nothing more than taking care of our body and the bodies of others, the most important thing is to find out what is our actual identity. This is of the topmost importance because by knowing this you can prioritize what is actully the most beneficial thing for yourself and your family members and indeed for the larger family of all living beings. We can see the example of Lord Brahma, the first being within this universe. His first concern was the find the answer to this question: "Who am I?"

Lord Brahma's inquiry is described in the Srimad Bhagavatam, Third Canto, Chapter 3, Text 18 as follows:

ka eṣa yo 'sāv aham abja-pṛṣṭha
etat kuto vābjam ananyad apsu
asti hy adhastād iha kiñcanaitad
adhiṣṭhitaṁ yatra satā nu bhāvyam

"Lord Brahmā, in his ignorance, contemplated: Who am I, situated on top of this lotus? What is this solitary lotus on the vast water, and wherefrom has it sprouted? There must be something downwards, and that from which this lotus has grown must be within the water."

Srila Prabhupada has explained as follows the meaning of the verse in his purport:

"The subject matter of the speculations of Brahmā in the beginning regarding the creation of the cosmic manifestation is still a subject matter for mental speculators. The most intelligent man is he who tries to find the cause of his personal existence and that of the whole cosmic creation and thus tries to find the ultimate cause. If his attempt is properly executed with penances and perseverance, it is sure to be crowned with success."

So let us learn from the example of Lord Brahma and take as our first business to find who are actually are, not what the deluded material society thinks we are.

Hare Krishna Srila Gurudev. Please accept my humble obeisance.

The material entanglements are so intense & ever increasing that it's difficult to be peaceful. Like on a sinking boat, fixing one hole only to discover 10 new holes. It's exhausting. Focus for spiritual activities automatically vanish for an incompetent being like me. Despite Your Grace's instructions, I don't have focus, nor any enthusiasm in life.

Why I have such a phenomenal confusion? Is striving for balance in spiritual & material life really worthwhile? Is there no easy way out of this giant mess ?

Srila Gurudev. Please pardon me if my words are found to be too blatant. I really have no one to express to who would listen without judging.

Please guide me, Srila Gurudev.

You are in same situation that Arjuna found himself to be in at the beginning of Bhagavad-gita. Due to the influence of the material energy our minds are completely bewildered. We can learn from the example of Arjuna how he came out of this bewildered condition. He was saved from this confusion by submissively hearing the words of Lord Sri Krishna. It’s not that we are far away from Krishna. If we submissively read the Bhagavad-gita Krishna will be ust as much personally with us as He was with Arjuna. Therefore if you will read the Bhagavad-gita cover to cover again and again and follow Krishna’s instructions all of your confusion will go away and you will become a bearer of the torchlight of knowledge for the saving of the fallen souls who are drowning the ocean of Kali.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me.
