Are You Convinced that You Are Not Your Body?
The difficulty we all have is that we keep trying to be what we are not. We keep trying to be our bodies. But we can't be are our bodies any more than the driver of a car can be his car. But yet when another another driver smashes into his car the driver of the hit car complains to the other driver, "You hit me," as if he was hit and not his car was hit. In this same way we keep misidentifying with our bodies. Therefore the first step in self realization is to be convinced that you are not your body.
Are you convinced that you are not your body?

I have a question.
Why are pure exalted devotees compared with swans and called paramahamsa? Is there any special quality in a swam?
Your fallen, rascal servant,
Sahil
My Dear Sahil,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
You have asked a very nice question: Why are pure devotees compared with swans? The pure devotees are called paramahamsas, which means "supreme swans." The reason
they are compared with swans is that just as the swan with its beak can extract the milk from a mixture of milk and water, in the same way the pure devotee of Krishna can extract Krishna from within the material existence in all times, places, and circumstances.
Lord Sri Krishna describe the paramahamsa in Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 6, Text 30 as follows:
yo māṁ paśyati sarvatra
sarvaṁ ca mayi paśyati
tasyāhaṁ na praṇaśyāmi
sa ca me na praṇaśyati
"For one who sees Me everywhere and sees everything in Me, I am never lost, nor is he ever lost to Me."
I hope this meets you in the best of health.
Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari
