The Greater Sex

Sex is God's arrangement for producing babies.The male injects semen into the female and makes her pregnant. But there is also a transcendental form of impregnation. This "greater sex" is to impregnate through the holes of their ears the living beings with the semen of Krishna consciousness. This makes them pregnant with Krishna consciousness, the reawakening of their original pure consciousness of love of God, which they once had but has sleeping within them since time immemorial. In this original pure form of consciousness they constantly and unlimitedly relish their eternal natures which are full of knowledge and full of bliss. Thus out of compassion on the suffering souls of this world Krishna's devotees want to make the whole world "pregnant" with pure love of God.

So there is no need to remain asleep in a suffering condition within the clutches of maya or illusion, keeping you locked up in temporality, ignorance, and misery. Question: Restrictions on Sex Within Marriage?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

One of our initiation vows is "No Illicit sex." We know that means that we should not have sex outside of marriage. Does this mean that we have facility for unlimited sex pleasure within marriage or are there some restrictions on this sex within marriage?

Answer: Sex Only for Procreation, Not for Recreation

Since the purpose of human life is self-realization, the more we can minimize or eliminate sense gratification the better off we will be. Thus Srila Prabhupada has clearly explained what are the limits on sexual intercourse within marriage. He clearly explains that sex within marriage should be minimized and that it is only for procreation, not for recreation. Here are some of Srila Prabhupada's many guidelines in this regard:

"According to religious injunctions a man is restricted to enjoy sex only once in a month, after the menstrual period of the wife, and if the wife is pregnant, he is not allowed sex life at all. That is the law for human beings."

"The grihasthas, or householders, are given license to have an intimate relationship with a woman, and that relationship is also restricted for begetting nice children. "You have asked me some questions about the functions of sex life in Krishna Consciousness, and the basic principle is that it should be avoided as far as possible. The recommended period is six days after the menstruation period."
