Srila Prabhupada Appeared on This Day

The most glorious day in modern history is 1 September 1896, the day that His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami appeared in this world in Calcutta, India. Since Vaisnava holidays are calculated according to the lunar calendar instead of the solar calendar, each year we celebrate Srila Prabhupada's appearance on a different solar calendar day. This year (2016) we celebrate it on 26 August.

What makes it so glorious? Srila Prabhupada has answered this question in a statement he made to Guru Das in London in 1973: "One day scholars will note how this Krishna consciousness movement saved the world in its darkest hour."

So Prabhupada's appearance is indeed is most auspicious, as indicated in this statement to Guru Das, because it marks the beginning of the most amazing paradigm shift in history. So recognize this day and celebrate this day. It's being observed at noon on 26 August this year in ISKCON centers all over the world. Take a day off from whatever you doing to fully immerse yourself in worshipping Srila Prabhupada on his most holp appearance day.

Question: How to Connect with Guru When He's Not Present?

I am really new to this path and have lot of illusions. One question is, how to connect with the Spiritual Master without being physically present with him.

What steps should I follow to connect with Spiritual Master?

Regards,
Gaurav

Answer: By Full Surrender to Following His Instructions

The connection with the spiritual master begins with hearing: hearing his lectures and reading his writings (a silent form of hearing). The next step is following his instructions. There are two ways in which the spiritual master is present:

1.) Vapuh: his physical form
2.) Vani: his vibrational presence (his teachings)

Of the two, vani is more important because while vapuh is sometimes available and sometimes not available, vani is eternally available. Therefore the vani presence of the spiritual master is the eternal shelter of the disciple. (Vapuh is used to help strengthen one’s connection with vani.) The spiritual master lives forever in the form of his teachings or vani and his disciple lives with him.

So to connect with the spiritual master you must immerse yourself as deeply as possible in hearing his lectures, reading his writings, and following his instructions. This is the key. It is more important that personally meeting him. Srila Prabhupada saw his spiritual master not more than ten times in his entire life, but yet out all of his Godbrothers, many who had a lot more association with his spiritual master than he did, he has the only disciple who fully inherited the mission of his spiritual master. This is due to his unflinching dedication to carrying out the orders he received from his spiritual master.

Therefore the real connection with the spiritual master is through his instructions. This is how the disciples fully enter into the divine association with their spiritual master at every moment. For example, while my disciples are able to connect with me through meeting with me personally, corresponding with me (as you are doing now), and attending my lectures here in Austin, Texas as well as on my twice-a-year around-the-world lecture tours--they have more access to me through hearing my live lectures often given at www.livelectures.net, through hearing my thousands of recorded lectures available at: www.ultimateselfrealization.com/audio, through reading my book, Truth Works, through participating in my e-course, The Ultimate Self Realization Course, and most importantly through being fully surrendered to following my instructions.
