Perseverance Furthers

In Chinese wisdom it is said, "Perseverance furthers." This lucidly and succinctly makes a very profound point and reminds me of what is stated in the Caitanya Caritamrita: "Essential truth spoken concisely is true eloquence." Perseverance means that one sticks to one's duty in all varieties of circumstances: the good, the bad, the beautiful, and the ugly. No matter what happens, one unflinchingly sticks to his duty without neglecting it in any way. This furthers him greatly along his path of personal spiritual emancipation as well as in his mission of delivering the fallen souls of this planet back to home, back to Godhead. "Perseverance furthers" is indeed a rare gem of wisdom that can nicely be engaged in Krishna's service.

Question: Doubts Regarding Lord Jagannatha

I have a few doubts regarding worshipping Lord Jagannatha. I am trying my best to address my doubts in the form of questions. If you can kindly clarify my doubts, it will be very helpful for me.

1. In what way is the mood of Lord Jagannatha different from the mood of Vrajendranandana Krishna (if there is any difference at all)? So should we have the same/different mood and sambandha in worshipping, say Radha Gopinatha and Lord Jagannatha?

2. What was the mood of Lord Chaitanya when he saw Lord Jagannatha? Was Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's mood in Puri that of vipralambha (separation) or that of sambhoga (meeting)?

3. How is it possible to approach and serve Lord Jagannatha? As I understand it is not possible to directly approach Krishna; we can do so only by serving His servants. Is it the same in the case of Lord Jagannatha? So can we try and develop the manjari bhava towards Lord Jagannatha as well, by serving the gopis of Vrindavan? Or shall it be the residents of Dvarka in this case?

4. Finally, what is the position of Jagannatha Puri in the spiritual world? Is it at the same level or does it occupy an inferior position to that of Vrindavan and Navadvipa ?

Thank you so much for reading my mail. I tried my best to formulate my doubts as questions. Actually I don't have much knowledge about how to approach and establish my sambandha (relationship) with Lord Jagannatha.

Answer: Our Teachings Dispel All Doubts

Lord Jagannatha is Krishna Himself in the ecstasy of remembering His Vrindavan pastimes.

Lord Caitanya was always in the highest ecstasy of separation, vipralambha.

We approach Lord Jagannatha through serving our spiritual master.

Regarding the position of Jagannatha Puri, Srila Prabhupada writes in the Nectar of Devotion:

"In the Brahma Purana it is said, 'The transcendental significance of Purusottama-ksetra, which is the eighty-square-mile field of Lord Jagannatha, cannot be properly described. Even the demigods from higher planetary systems see the inhabitants of this Jagannatha Puri as having exactly the same bodily features possessed by one in Vaikuntha. That is, the demigods see the inhabitants of Jagannatha Puri as being four-handed.'"

Lord Jagannatha is Krishna Himself in the mood of feeling separation from the holy land of Vrindavan.

It is a very simply uncomplicated matter to re-establish your lost relationship with Lord Jagannatha or Lord Krishna. They are one and the same. This method is described by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu as follows:

gopī-bhartuḥ pada-kamalayor dāsa-dāsānudāsaḥ

"I identify Myself only as the servant of the servant of the servant of the lotus feet of Lord Sri Krishna, the maintainer of the gopis."

So all you have to do is to fully surrender yourself at the lotus feet of the bona fide spiritual master. In this way, by fully surrendering unto your Guru Maharaja, your original rasa or loving relationship with the Lord will be unlocked and regained by you in due course of time when you become absolutely pure in your Krishna consciousness. Until then you should faithfully execute your duties according to your guru's orders with full faith that your day of total awakening is coming soon.
